Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Doubt it. But who knows, hard to tell if the new ownership is actually involved at all yet or not. It sounds like an opinion more than a rumour, lost in translation.

Bro it’ll take like 4mos for it to get approved. Even back door dealing, not sure how much sway they can have, even if it’s unlikely to fall apart.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Yeah, Burnes is a one year commitment, and they used expendable prospect depth to get him. Trade probably would have happened even if they didn't sell the team. If they sign Snell, then that's a different story.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Could be something like this though: Family was hesitant to make big investments as they were tying to sell the team, and unsure if a buyer would want big long term commitments or a clean payroll. Then in the process of negotiating and striking this deal, maybe this buyer indicated that they would approve of some long term commitments and prospect trades to raise payroll and make the team better immediately.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 If the Orioles start going big game spending to go with their great young foundation then we are truly f***ed. Hope that's just a rumour.

I’m sure there’s been some of that through the initial process, but there’s still hurdles to clear, so doubt the family is going to change their modus operandi.

Hope that's just a rumour. Who knows. Teams can spend big and f*** up. Look at the mess the Padres are/were in. Look at the last time the Orioles spent money (Chris Davis!)

This is what separates good teams like the Dodgers/Astros and the teams you mentioned including the Mets.

Hope that's just a rumour. You're gonna have to accept they will be class of this division for a long time. Our only hope is them spending on the wrong guys. Baltimore is a s*** hole so its possible dudes won't want to play and re-sign there though.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 You’d have to go back a decade to Fried and Turner to find guys they dealt that really mattered. CJ Abrams possibly. Makenzie Gore. Plus maybe others in the Soto trade. And a bunch of guys they traded to the Rays for Snell… and the cubs for Darvish. Idk they just completely obliterated their farm within the span of 2 years while Overpaying on some big contracts like Machado, Bogaerts, Darvish, etc.

Traded an entire roster worth of guys and didn’t even make it the the WS. And only a handful of playoff appearances
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 Hahaha... C-poop's dumn. “Playoffs are all luck/crapshoot” and they got there. Some good seasons in return they got. Not a lot of gut punches there. A few decent pieces, but again, not like it was for nothing. You’d have to do a list of everything coming back to grade it obviously. My take on the GM is more about some of the contracts. Hosmer in particular was just an all time bad before ink dried. So not defending him, but not sure his trade history would be much more than a wash
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 No respect. As someone pointed out, when you consider all 5 guys that will get time at 3b, we’re going to be Top 10 there. So anyone turning up their nose at the IKF signing just doesn’t understand baseball.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 Not accurate. The little race car that could actually showed some determination and when exactly was our good run because we haven't won a playoff game since 2016 lol. We have been swept out of year of the Vlad era.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 Boston has hired Theo Epstein and Kyle Boddy this offseason AL East gets even tougher lol. At least the schedule is more balanced now, but long term Baltimore, TB and BOS all now have really smart FO. And the Yankees are the Yankees.

Should have been in AA last year but had 65 homers and steals in the majors...

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 Connor saying CJA sucks just reinforces our opinion of him I’ll take the package they just got, so they got 1.3 years of Soto for free
