deanmike Verified Member Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 If those are the headliners this is very bad You're not gonna want to hear this but BTV grades this as a slight win of roughly +3 in surplus value for the Brewers.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Seems like a dumb trade for the Brews?? f***ing hell…. I'm trying to decide if it was a bad trade by the Brewers or am I just annoyed that they helped one of our biggest competirors address their biggest need

Ortiz and Hall are likely decent everyday players, but usually you’re looking for an impact player when trading an Ace like Burnes

Ortiz and Hall are likely decent everyday players, but usually you’re looking for an impact player when trading an Ace like Burnes My only small bit of consolation is the fact that Burnes has seen declining results over the last few seasons so hopefully that trend continues. He's been trending downwards from a bonafide ace into more of a good number 2 type of pitcher. 2021 1.63 FIP/2.43 xERA 7.5 FWAR 2022 3.14 FIP/3.05 xERA 4.6 FWAR 2023 3.81 FIP/3.40 xERA 3.4 FWAR
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 welp, at least Baltimore is burning some prospect capital finally one year of Burnes...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 They added a legit #1 SP and their payroll is still under 100MM And will.qualitfy him and get that draft pick back of course
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 We traded Jeff Kent for half a year of David Cone
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 What would the Jays’ equivalent package be?
deanmike Verified Member Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 What would the Jays’ equivalent package be? BTV wise closest I could come up with was Orelvis/Kirk+Manoah+Biggio/Kasevich
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Was going to say Orelvis + Manoah
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 What would the Jays’ equivalent package be? Ortiz is a plug-and-play SS who might have some upside. Probably 2 WAR immediately, unless the scouts are wrong on his D, with the chance for more. Hall is immediately a back-end reliever with some chance still to be starter. The Jays really do not have a comparable package. Tiedemann on his own is probably close enough to the value of the package. Orelvis + Nimmala might be close but it wouldn't be what Milwaukee wanted for various reasons.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Ok well if the Brewers are getting a 2 WAR SS with some upside and an upside arm to go with pick 34 that's not that bad of a package for one year of Corbin Burnes where he makes 15 mil.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Ok well if the Brewers are getting a 2 WAR SS with some upside and an upside arm to go with pick 34 that's not that bad of a package for one year of Corbin Burnes where he makes 15 mil. You also have to factor in that Burnes will be qualified so Baltimore will get a compensation pick if it is only 1 year. Great trade for the Orioles.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 I don’t think it’s that bad. Apparently Joey Ortiz hits the ball hard and they can mold DL Hall for one year of Burnes Adames to the Dodgers any second now Ummmm can the Jays get Adames instead and move Bo to 2B.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Ummmm can the Jays get Adames instead and move Bo to 2B. I'm sure Bo will love being moved to 2B after working so hard to become average at SS right before hitting his big free agency lol.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Ummmm can the Jays get Adames instead and move Bo to 2B. Adames would be a 1 year rental. If the team wasn't willing to move Bo to second base for a single year of Semien they aren't going to for Adames either. Adames would presumably shift to third base if acquired as his plus arm would be an asset at the position.

But obviously his Defense and range at SS is elite.

That would certainly be a good option for the team, but moving Bo to second base really reduces the value of Schneider and Biggio to the point where a potentially really nice second base platoon is effectively erased, and the subpar collection of third base options continues to be an issue. I think the team is stronger overall keeping Bo at short where he's likely worked his way to about average defensively and strengthening the third base situation.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Corbin Burnes to Baltimore f***, I was hoping they'd overpay on Cease. Man, this division is going to be tough as f***, F U Brew Crew, I hope their spects flop.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Carlos Baerga has something up about the Os also going for or getting JDM and Snell.

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 The Os getting good is fine because the Red Sox and Yankees suck now, right right
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 The Os getting good is fine because the Red Sox and Yankees suck now, right right Meh I wouldn't think the Yankees suck. They could still be a team that could pull off 90+ wins if they get lucky and stay healthy. I don't see them being worse than they were last season. Right now I think they sit between 85-88 wins, similar to the Blue Jays. Red Sox really haven't done much to move the needle but if some of their young core players take a step forward and they get some bounce backs from Tyler O'Neill, Trevor Story and Lucas Giolito, they could pull off a .500 season or better.

Man, this division is going to be tough as f***, F U Brew Crew, I hope their spects flop. SP is the one gaping hole the O's had, and this helps them go a long way to plugging it. They have a Gausman now every 5th day, and a playoff horse.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Yup, I hope this f***er is wrong, lol... Doubt it. But who knows, hard to tell if the new ownership is actually involved at all yet or not.
