Ohtani Thread - Special Sheriff's Edition (Update: confirmed going to the Dodgers)

Ok folks I know I hung up my badge months ago but special times call for special measures. We are finalists to sign the greatest player since Babe Ruth and everyone is going to need to be on their best behavior in order to beat the Dodgers and make it happen.

 

I've been in contact with the mods, the conglomerate corporate hedge fund that owns this web site (they are very happy with our year-end numbers btw) as well as some of the higher ups at Rogers. I have even been in contact with members of the Canadian government who are heavily involved but I can't use any of their names so don't ask.

 

Basically, what we've all agreed upon is that everyone needs to be on their best behavior from now until the end of the winter meetings next week. Ohtani is a very polite and mild-mannered guy and if he were to visit the preeminent message board in all of Blue Jays fandom he might be shocked by the Wild West nature that we have going on here.

 

So everyone watch their language and mind your manners or else.

 

Also, when I spoke with the great Geddy Lee last night (who is very involved in this process) he specifically asked me if there was anything we could do about connorp. I told him that we have blocked all of connorp's posts from being viewed by anyone using a Japanese IP address. He also expressed some concerns about Spanky from the hours of midnight to 5 am and I told him that there's nothing we can do about that since Spanky has been given board immunity but we are hopeful that Ohtani, renowned for his health and fitness regimen, will be sleeping whenever Spanky is awake.

 

So everyone keep your crap together, at least through the end of the week, or there will be big time penalties. I'm sorry to have to lay down the law again but I'm sure you all understand.

I love Rogers. I love Shapiro. I'm glad they fired Ben Wagner. He wasn't a team player. Maybe they fired Wagner because they new they needed the booth free for the Japanese broadcast team that will be doing every game when Ohtani signs. I also heard home plate lady was kicked out because they will giving Ohtani the section behind homeplate as part of his deal.

 

Whatever the case the higher ups working for Rogers and the Canadian government are some of the finest men I have served with. And I don't mean that literally, such fine people would never serve along side an undesirable like me. Just a figure of speech. They are fine people who Ohtani would be proud to serve with.

Lets take a look at what he may use to gage his decision:

 

Wants to play for winner: LA has some great players and Id say Mookie is elite, and Freddie is very good but we have Bo and Vladdy Id say our rotation and bullpen is Better. Are you saying, We didn’t go far in the play-offs??? well maybe he feels that adding him on our team would be the difference. Also LA didn’t go far in play-offs either.

 

Location is something we cant change, but just for a minute lets consider advantages we may have: to travel from Toronto to Tokyo direct flight is 14 hr 5 min. LA to Tokyo, 12 hr 10 min. He'd spend that extra time waiting in traffic by the LA airport. ** Team travel is not friendly for western teams for example Dodgers traveled 41,700 MILES in 2023 while the Jays flew 31,465 miles. There are advantages.

 

Money, We can spend with the best of them and I believe we can beat any offer that LA throws at him.

 

Traditional teams: Some Japanese players want to play for the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers etc. but obviously that’s not a big deal to him as he chose the f***in Angels the first time around. The Jays have a huge following as well, and like it or not, having a team supported by an entire country is pretty cool, it may not tip the scales but it is quite unique.

 

Home stadium Not sure but I think he hits better in Toronto than most other places. All the new renos they are doing at Rogers centre the players facilities are rated very high as well.

 

TRAINING FACILITIES. I forgot about that we have the best in the business for training and is only a positive if he looks at this.

 

This is just to show that we do have some advantages and just be thankful that its not us that bowed out.

If he is using us to drive the price up so what, Its Ohtani and I love it,. Its scary spending that much but who cares Its Ohtani.
