thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 Orlando Arcia is a moron for talking s*** after G2. Don't poke the bear with perhaps the best clutch hitter in the postseason over the past two years.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2023 Author Posted October 11, 2023 Sucks after that comeback in Game 2, Atlanta coming out flat in Game 3. Hope we can see this series go to a Game 5 at least.
Marew Verified Member Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 How so? There's 29 teams every season that don't quite have enough and come up short. My quote is a bit off but he said it’s the first team he’s been on that he thinks is capable of going all the way. This was specifically the playoff teams he’s been on. So it’s not that the jays didn’t make it, he didn’t think they would have been capable.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2023 Author Posted October 11, 2023 Is Scherzer expected back for the ALCS or World Series?
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 Phillies fans doing the chop takes me back to 92 and Gruber and Alomar doing the chop after big outs in the World Series. That was so awesome.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 Is Scherzer expected back for the ALCS or World Series? Rumours he might be back for ALCS. TBD.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 Phillies stars taking it home.. no Rojas grand slam or anything to let you guys talk about randomness, hopefully next game.
philly30 Verified Member Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 No need to take Nola out, the over managing these days is ridiculous
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 No need to take Nola out, the over managing these days is ridiculous I mean at least they let him see the fourth

The 104-win Braves losing a short series to the Phillies in part because they got dominated by Ranger Suarez in game 1 and top players like Harris, Olson and Ozuna haven't hit is exactly the randomness people have been talking about
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 Ranger Suarez dominates the best offense of the last 15 years. connorp: ThE PlAYOFSs Are EnTIRELy PreDICTable

BTS Community Moderator Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 Didn’t he pitch like 4 innings 3.2 Braves' star-studded lineup was shutout by an SP5 and an army of relievers with their top-tier ace on the mound. Decent chance it's the difference in the series. Randomness. Unpredictability of a short series.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 Yeah Arcia got postered. Top pic on mlb

I’m the guy telling you when black hits on the 30 of 40 pinwheel, bet black. You’re the guy yapping when red comes up every 6 tries “look look see” To each their own
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 You traded me maybe the best player in baseball 2 different times for peanuts. Go take a cold shower and think on it

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 I'm actually still not entirely sure what you're telling me. I think it's that good players are good. The core of it is you can take this playoffs and rewind it ten times and Jays would get past MIN at best, on maybe a few tries out of the 10. They lose the next round the times they sneak in. Not a good squad. Wasn’t bad luck. Couldn’t hit for s*** really all year. Hopefully the long off-season reset does some of them good

Hopefully the long off-season reset does some of them good I've never called it bad luck, I called it the absence of good luck. If you simulate the series 1000 times, Minny takes it probably 550-600. Slightly better team, and homefield advantage. So, aside from you acting like an annoying clairvoyant every time a good player hits a HR in the playoffs, we don't really disagree on much.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 You can't say that the Jays had no chance of advancing past the ALDS when the Diamondbacks are on the verge of making the NLCS. If you get in anything can happen. 4 crappy games from our garbage ass team the past two years doesn't change that.

I wish you luck.

He also did post a 2.4 fWAR and 3.90 xFIP this season in just 22 starts. He's not an elite arm, but he's a pretty decent 3/4 starter who is still only 28. He also only pitched 3.2 innings, it's not like he shut down that lineup over 6 or 7 innings.

The particulars don’t actually matter. My point boils down to: what was the expected outcome of a Suarez vs. Strider start in Atlanta? Did that outcome occur? And based on those two answers, is this series a good example of how a short series isn’t meaningfully impacted by random chance?

If you get in anything can happen. 4 crappy games from our garbage ass team the past two years doesn't change that. I agree with you to an extent. Yes the Postseason especially a short series like the WC and DS can be random. Though the Blue Jays never really showed us anything over 162 games other than their dominant rotation, bullpen and fielding. The lineup over 162 was as frustrating to watch as ever. It's not like the Jays bats just went cold in their series against the Twins. They pretty much were awful since the end of April. Arizona actually was leading the NL West for a certain amount of time, I believe even in June. As well, they have a young exciting core led by Carroll who could be a difference maker in a short series and two solid arms in Gallen and Kelly. They definitely were meant for a short series. Additionally, they ran into a Brewers team that was without Woodruff in that WC series and also a Dodgers rotation that wasn't 100% healthy. I would still rather the Jays produce regular seasons like the Dodgers or Braves on a consistent basis, rather than be a borderline WC team during the regular season. But regardless, will take a WS anyway we can get one.
