Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 This got me thinking how different this competitive window would have looked had the Jays succeeded in trading for Lindor. This was 2021, so chances are trading for Lindor would have meant no Semien, and Bichette likely never plays SS again for this team from 2021-present. Of course it would help to know what the trade actually looked like in terms of which players the Jays were losing. Would we have still signed Springer if we landed (and extended) Lindor? I mean who knows...

Laika Community Moderator Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 The Blue Jays are getting used again! lol
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 Exciting time to be a Jays fan Finishing second place to every superstar FA is quite an accomplishment
The_DH Verified Member Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 could also be useful to send New York over the budgetary top.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 The Blue Jays are getting used again! lol This time will be different
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 Smart. I'd take a cheap backup that fell into our laps some time in February. But even then, the 3-5 mil spent on a decent backup could just be used to sign a decent middle reliever and we need a half dozen of those. And it's a small sample size, but there is evidence that Heineman is good defensively.

Hyun-Jim Ryu - $80M Kevin Gausman - $110M George Springer - $150M It is time for a $190M contract! Willy Adames, come on down

I always thought Tyler H was a really good 3rd catcher Which makes him a below average but not the worst second catcher kind of I would rather use that money elsewhere too I think

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 It's a scary thought how bad the Blue Jays catching situation would be if Kirk were to suffer an injury and miss significant time. Is Yasmani Grandal going to fix that problem?
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 It's a scary thought how bad the Blue Jays catching situation would be if Kirk were to suffer an injury and miss significant time. Probably a deadline trade patchup if that happens. Most teams don’t have catchers that can actually hit anyways, as long as the backup has good D its not the end of the world.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 That site is terrible and littered with fake news, no bueno.

Just a few years ago people were saying how good our catching depth was...brutal asset management imo.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Just a few years ago people were saying how good our catching depth was...brutal asset management imo. What would you have done differently? Extend Jansen? Trade Jansen for MUCH less and have no current CFer? We've had good catching depth for the past 10 years (since signing Martin). Depth at different positions is going to go in cycles and we do have Kirk for another couple of years.
