Dagagad Verified Member Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 If Click is some sort of pitching development savant as you are suggesting why wouldn't his knowledge immediately be implemented by the organization? This literally makes no sense whatsoever. I didn't say he is a pitching dev savant. He's available so he allows us to not let atkins to make any more dumb decisions. He also had an important role in two of the smartest franchises in baseball. He should know who to hire. Take a hard look in two years and see what we have coming, and our development, and then unlike atkins fire him if you need to.

If the team is to hire a new GM I'd infinitely have them do an extensive search of MLB as a whole instead of just handing the reins to Click simply because he was a part of successful organizations.

I'm 95% sure that Atkins wasn't making the decisions at this past deadline, likely a makeshift of Click/Tinnish and Shapiro the end de facto.

We did this before and are now married to 9 years ongoing of the two guys from cleveland who can't do pitching. Maybe go for the guy who fell into our laps and be ready to fire fast as a change of pace.

This literally makes no sense whatsoever. Who said it hasn't? The Jays hired him in a VP role. I'm sure he has/will have a lot of influence on the team but he just got here last season. Atkins is a gm not a VP. Can there be any doubt that Click was brought in to help him with strategy?

If I recall correctly Click is directly in charge of overall team strategy. The offense has became a weakness in recent seasons as the decision to become more balanced largely backfired, the minor league system has taken a large step back, and the organization finds itself at a major crossroads regarding it's short term and long term future. I don't really see a lot to suggest that Click has been particularly effective in his role based on how little we know about his actual duties. This feels similar to those who suggested that Mattingly should become manager after firing Schneider as Mattingly has not been particularly successful in his role as offensive coordinator. I don't see much of anything to suggest that Click actually deserves to be elevated to a new role vs becoming one potential candidate if the team decides to relieve Atkins of his duties.

He just got here prior to the 2023 season. Which in his role is like getting here yesterday.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 He just got here prior to the 2023 season. Which in his role is like getting here yesterday. The team dramatically altered their overall MLB team strategy in the 2022 offseason. It immediately led to the offensively challenged squad of the last two seasons. Much of this was due to unexpected performances of the holdover players vs those that were brought into the organization, but I don't think Atkins should be the person receiving all of the blame for the overall course the organization took while the VP in charge of overall strategy gets a complete pass and even a promotion.
BatFlip Verified Member Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 He just got here prior to the 2023 season. Which in his role is like getting here yesterday. That's a good point. His position also seems like more of an advisory role where he's one of several senior voices in the room when decisions/direction need to be decided. Ultimately, Atkins has had final say regardless of how often he uses buzz terms like "collaborative approach" and "collaborative management". Who knows what Click has advocated/opposed.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 repeat offenders tend to get progressively longer punishments, in all facets of life. Luckily I missed this political bait in real time, otherwise I might have been right back in the hole.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Anyone finally coming around to the fact Vlad is $300m+. Or still doing the Chris Davis comp thing around here?

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 *rEaD* Being banned 2 weeks for a 2 day offense has put me a little behind. I’ll catch up soon.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 No team will give him 300m If he continues mashing to the end of the season it's increasingly possible the Blue Jays will be the team giving Vlad $300 million.

And with properly structure deferred money, that 300m wouldn't even be 300m, it would just look like it on paper.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 And with properly structure deferred money, that 300m wouldn't even be 300m, it would just look like it on paper. This would be contingent on both Vlad and the team being willing to defer money in this fashion.

Yay sarcasm. I don't recall Blue Jays structuring deals with significant deferrals in the past so this would be out of the norm. We have no way to know if Vlad would be willing to do this either. Ohtani was an edge case given the insane amount of marketing money he pulls in already so deferring huge chunks of present payment was a far easier pill to swallow.

Yeah hard to say, but really Ohtani sets the bar. Jays point to him and say listen, the Jesus of baseball was willing to defer in order to keep competitive so the Dodgers can keep guys like Freeman and Betts around. It's not even like What Would Jesus Do, it's now Look What Jesus Did.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Who is Luis Frias and why did we nab him?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Who is Luis Frias and why did we nab him? The Blue Jays have claimed Luis Frías off of waivers from the Diamondbacks, according to both teams. Arizona designated the right-hander for assignment on Thursday to make room for catcher Andrew Knizner on the 40-man roster. Toronto has optioned Frías to Triple-A Buffalo, reports Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet. The Blue Jays had two open spots on their 40-man roster, so no additional roster moves will be necessary. He throws a hard sinker, thats about all I know. It's a "throw s*** at the wall and see if it sticks" move for the pen

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Yeah They keep nabbing fringe relievers may as well. open roster spots, hope 1 works out. What else they gonna do at this point of the season? the only guys with real talent that might appear on waivers will be old and/or expensive, which they don't want.
