Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 We will see a lot of DS this season, assuming he does well in Buffalo
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 so now they're love with Clemment, ffs give Schneider a shot Yeah I don't understand it at all. What more does DS have to prove to make the team? Is the defense really THAT bad that they'd send a projected 110wRC+ bat to AAA when the team may still struggle to score runs?
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Yeah I don't understand it at all. What more does DS have to prove to make the team? Is the defense really THAT bad that they'd send a projected 110wRC+ bat to AAA when the team may still struggle to score runs? My dude, David Snider is in the lineup today at 2B, batting 5th. The annoying part about today's lineup is Eduardo Escobar getting more reps at 3B. You'd think they would have released him already and every available rep would be going to the bubble guys. Why not be sticking Espinal and Biggio at 3B to give them work there? Or DS even?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 If Clement in LF means anything, then it likely means DS is going to AAA and they plan to keep Espinal. Or at least that’s something they are considering. Then against lefties we have Clement in LF and Espinal at 2B. If there’s one thing Atkins loves, it is depth, even if it’s the most fungible depth imaginable. A tax team can punt a $2.75m contract if it means making the team better but DS has options and makes nothing while Espinal is now a vetrin who makes a real salary, so unfortunately that might be how the Jays want to operate here. Hopefully I’m wrong and we see an Espinal trade in the next few days.
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Clement laser. Clearly deserves a shot
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 It would really be amazing to get actual insight into the Jays decisions to see where the board is "bang on", or if we regularly overthink things. I mean, for all we know, the Jays might just want to get a look at Clement in LF to see if he's an option in a pinch. It could have ZERO impact on who's making this team.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Honestly if they want to try Clement anywhere it should be 3B. If they get lucky then maybe they get a somewhat decent 3B option for the medium term if his bat is league average or better, and there's real upside there given his 2023 minor league numbers and bat to ball skills. Unlike IKF where you pretty much know what you're going to get.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 I still think they'll carry Vogelbach and cut Espinal. Serven/Biggio/Clement/Vogelbach bench

But this also might mean they keep Espinal, because his projections remain relatively solid.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 The "Steamer600 2024 Blue Jays" would be: C - Kirk 3.9 SS - Bo 3.7 1B - Vlad 3.6 LF - Varsho 2.9 RF - Springer 2.6 2B - Schneider 2.6 DH - Horwitz 2.0 3B - Espinal 1.9 CF - Kiermaier 1.8 C2 - Jansen 2.4 BN - Roden 1.7 BN - IKF 1.5 BN - Clement 1.5 Horwitz is getting disrespected hard by Atkins this spring. f***ing Vogelbach and Votto brought in.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Update on Gausman Kevin Gausman (shoulder) feels “sound physically” after a two-inning simulated game on Wednesday. The Blue Jays ace will now throw 60-65 pitches over three innings in a game, likely on Monday. After that outing, the team will make a call on his availability for the start of the season. If he responds well on Monday, the team would likely have him throw 70-80 pitches in a regular season game to start the season, so it will be a few starts before he’s fully ramped up. However, that’s not uncommon for this time of year and the fact that Gausman feels healthy is the most important part.

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Atkins knows his job is on the line. The default is to go with the vetrins. Too bad for Horwitz that his spring has been so poor. It might have been his job to lose, and he may have lost it. For all we know.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Anyone know if Votto has started playing again? Feel like I care more about his performance than any other Jay at this stage of Spring Training lol.

But this also might mean they keep Espinal, because his projections remain relatively solid. I guess it's possible the Jays aren't as high on Schneider as the projections say, or at least want him to work on things before they give him a spot. He strikes out a lot and he is in an org that preaches/love contact, or maybe they think the league has adjusted to him and he hasn't adjusted back yet. I hope that's the reasoning if they demote him and not an affinity for Espinal.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Great play by IKF for those not watching. EE clanked the grounder to 3B, but IKF was hovering and was somehow able to collect it and gun out Acuna. Wow!
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Clement with the diving catch in LF!

But deep down we all know Espinal is making the team at the expense of someone
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Clement just took a ball 6 inches off the dirt and ripped it up the middle what a stud

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Varsho had a great AB on the groundout here. Schneider's "reached on error" was smashed to 3B, should have been a hit.

infinitebook Verified Member Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 The Toronto Blue Jays are working on becoming the best team they can be. Players like Vlad Guerrero Jr and Bo Bichette wish to excel and be remembered as legends of the game. We will see if this will result in an improved season despite the lack of additions in the offseason. As JFK once said, "we choose to go sail across the atlantic not because of it is easy, but because it is hard!!!"

Stottlemyres_Bloody_Chin Verified Member Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 f***...this board is a freaking mess now. Make a post just to s*** talk another member? All good. Make a post to cause a topic that was "discouraged" to be brought up again? All good Post dumb s*** and then like it with you and your "bring out the gimp" fellow posters? All good This board is on the precipice if who controls the narrative. The inmates are close to controlling the asylum. I know there has been talk of discouraging new sign ups but I would be equally worried about keeping the people that actually come on here to talk baseball. What is anyone's guess as to how many just want to talk Bball? 20%...maybe. Show your mettle blue jays message board. Troll behavior is not hard to detect. I have offered to be a sponsor before, offer still stands. Maybe this isn't the board for "ahem...the masses". In my opinion if you want to constantly bring up Bauer, past trades (ad nauseum), past managers (double barf) and coulda- shoulda- whatever the f***... That was way too much to type while a bit drunk and angry at 80% of you ankle grabbers. Be f***ing better everyone!!! It's not hard to not be a f***ing twat from behind a keyboard. (And for those of you keeping it real and trying to keep the board on track, thank you sincerely for keep on keeping on. Permanently ban Spanky and these problems will mostly disappear.
