Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 Is your buddy's initials CK? Seriously, I have a good friend who lives in your neck of the woods, is a cop, and he knows plenty of TBJ's and chills with them as well. Nope. Initials are SS. I think he's been a cop in Toronto for a very long time now. I just started coaching with him last year.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 This describes every rotation in baseball. If their best arm is hurt and another guy sucks....omg! Well Manoah is also hurt/in effective so I mean sure you can say the same thing for a lot of teams but if Gauseman misses like a month and the Jays get off to a 6-11 start.. Well all of a sudden the season could go down the tubes pretty fast. The Jays don't exactly have a 95 win team this year and considering the brutal schedule in early April well things could get ugly quick..

Well all of a sudden the season could go down the tubes pretty fast. The Jays don't exactly have a 95 win team this year and considering the brutal schedule in early April well things could get ugly quick.. There's no need to panic at this point. Gausman himself expects to be ready to start the regular season as scheduled. If he misses time the team actually has plenty of depth to weather a short term absence. Manoah provided essentially no value out of the rotation last season so even the team's the least desirable depth options like Parsons could actually be more effective rotation options in his absence. If the team has a rough April it's not the end of the world in a 6 month season. They had an awful May last season and still qualified for the post season, a single rough month in not something to panic about.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 Always gotta love the "what if?" crowd. I mean, doesn't the Jays FO know they need to carry 10+ proven MLB starting pitchers because...what if?

I mean, doesn't the Jays FO know they need to carry 10+ proven MLB starting pitchers because...what if? What if Gausman and Berrios go down and Kickuchi blows up!? The front office needs to plan for these things and have at least four aces on the staff. Also, what if the team starts 6-20?! We're f***ed guys! What if Bo and Vladdy get injured?! What if?! We need to have some all-star back-ups too just IN CASE. Oh wait, Espinal IS an all-star back-up. Maybe we are actually f***ed.
polar bear Verified Member Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 CNN isn't going to have anything about the Guseman injury... Schneider literally said he might not be ready to star the season because of shoulder fatigue, not exactly what you want to hear... CNN Lol! Fake news.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 The Gausman concern is basically that he has a setback. If he starts throwing against hitters this week and is fine, no setbacks, then yeah I don't see huge concerns. Maybe he is 5th in the rotation or misses one start. But if he has a setback... that's the actual worry here, lads. Yeah, we have an off day on the 4th, so we'd only have to fill one spot start if necessary before the 8th or 9th (and that's assuming no rainouts at Yankee Stadium). Not a big deal at this point.
BatFlip Verified Member Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 Wow I guess I really did come off like a faggot there lol. I just meant it is a bit concerning especially a shoulder injury to the teams ace. I personally don’t think the SP depth seems as good as others think here. I think if you took a quick look at the rotation depth for all the other mlb teams you’d feel better about what the Jays have here. I’m hopeful that Francis is a legitimate fifth starter and I’m still a Ricky T believer and think we will see him before the all star break. Manoah is a wildcard, but all in all you have a lot more palatable options for the grind of a full season than the last couple years. Any team would be hurting if they lost their ace.

I'm not counting on Manoah for anything at this point, his shoulder must be f***ed. Ricky T is good so if you pencil him in as the 5th SP theres that, but he's also had injury concerns on his own. Gauseman hopefully is just nothing but you never know with the Jays when it comes to reporting injuries..

I just meant it is a bit concerning especially a shoulder injury to the teams ace. I personally don’t think the SP depth seems as good as others think here. Nobody can really qualify as depth to replace a guy like Gausman. They’ll always be a big step down. There’s enough bodies to make starts for 2-3 SP injuries depending on the duration. Francis, White, Parsons, Espino would be the guys more capable of throwing more innings (effectiveness TBD) shorter term injuries Tiedemann, Yariel, Richards spot starting. Wildcard of Little, not sure where he shakes out at this point. Obviously not every guy on that list would step in and be amazing, but there’s nobody else out there to sign either unless they’re a minor league deal. Montgomery and Snell are just not happening I’d be very tempted to grab Velasquez even though he’s still recovering from surgery for later on in the season. He was still throwing decent before he went down in June last year

I don't think many/any think the rotation depth is GOOD. It's just... a few months ago a lot of people thought it was HORRENDOUS. And now because Francis, White, Parsons, Tiedemann have shown a bit in spring, and Yariel is now throwing, some of us just think it's kind of OKAY. Like, it might be acceptable depth.

I’m sure max silver does and would give you a 2000 word essay on why lol. Francis I actually like, but what exactly has Mitch white shown this spring? 4K/9 and 7BB/9 isn’t inspiring confidence. Sure he had a few good starts in Buffalo to end the season but he’s had a lot more terrible than good in this Toronto tenure.

Can't lie, I actually kind of like the team's SP depth this season on paper. Even being one of Manoah's biggest haters (still don't believe in him) I've always liked Francis White and Parsons are wildcards with seemingly more interesting stuff than last season Plus Yariel and Ricky will ramp up in AAA When was the last time the team had this many interesting SP depth arms heading into a season?

He was decent in Buffalo once demoted. His velo is way up this spring as it was in Buffalo. baseball is not rocket science. it's reasonable to think that he would be way better in MLB than we have seen so far in a Jays uniform.

You'll never catch me saying the Blue Jays depth is somehow amazing, but I do think it's sufficient to start the season with potential to actually improve over time as Tiedemann gains experience and Rodriguez builds stamina.

They had Dickey, Buehrle, Estrada, Stroman (RIP), Hutchison, traded for Price, tried Sanchez in the rotation (don't remember why he came out, injury?), and had Matt Boyd and Daniel Norris as good looking prospects to debut. In 2017 they really started dumpster diving for depth. I think Sam Gaviglio got 30 starts one year haha.

Macko has also been assigned to AAA to start the season as well so he's also going to be interesting to follow. I would guess that Chad Dallas will also be pitching in the rotation for the Bisons. For the first time in forever the team may actually be able to field a full rotation in Buffalo instead of a patchwork group of multi inning relievers.

True I forgot about Dallas, he's interesting too (but non 40-man depth for now like Ricky). Macko I think next year or the year after is when he becomes legit SP depth. I think he likely spends the entire season in Buffalo.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 Jays have 9 guys listed as SP's in AAA right now, and that's with Manoah on the shelf and the optionable Francis in the MLB rotation. No wonder the Jays had no problem sending Kloffenstein and Robberse to the Cards for that negative WAR bum that flopped hard here. Obviously Yariel, RT and Dallas are the 'spects to watch, but maybe they can squeeze something out of guys like Schultz, Quinones, Melean and Robbins. I mean, Francis looked like sweet F all two seasons ago and has actually turned himself into something possibly.

It was Matt Svanson who was dealt for DeJong.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 king vladito wants the jacket back !! The Blue Jays hit a ton of home runs when they had the home run jacket. They hit way less home runs when they didn't have the jacket therefore it's scientifically proven that the home run jacket leads to more home runs.
