Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Report: Cardinals trading reliever Hicks to Blue Jays https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2647835
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Author Posted July 30, 2023 Curious what the return is since there were many teams after him. Going to guess we overpaid for a rental.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Author Posted July 30, 2023 Who are we kicking off the 40 man for this?
The Iceman Verified Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Who are we kicking off the 40 man for this? Wouldn't Mitch White be the easy one considering he wouldn't clear waivers to clear a spot.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Hatch is still on the 40 man. DFA him
The Iceman Verified Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 That is a tough pay for a team starving for young SP arms.
Funky Verified Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Really like the Hicks addition. If Romano and Hicks are healthy that is starting to look like a legit playoff bullpen. Let’s get a bay now
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Romano Hicks Green Mayza Swanson Richards Garcia Cabrera Damn, that's a tight BP Pearson Jackson Francis Pop As depth.

PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 We’ve all seen the last 4-5 years that the teams with the deepest bullpens last in the race to wild card and tend to be the shut down teams in the playoffs! Atkins had to secure a top closer type pitcher and solidify the pen. Might be the best moves Atkins has done the last 5 years by picking up a hard throwing lefty off the waiver wire and trading for Hicks. Just need one solid slugging hitter to provide depth protection for Vlad and waiver wire Biggio.

PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 He threw yesterday touching 95-96 probably a couple more outings in AAA.

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Hicks has a 31% k rate this season. I wonder if he could bounce Romano from the closers position or will it by closer by committee? I don't see Romano losing his closer status though.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Yeah I approve this move by Atkins. Hicks can be a lockdown BP arm and can pitch multiple innings if needed. Nice insurance since Romano is on the IL and could move back to an 8th inning role when Romano gets back. Also, once Green comes back, this back end of the bullpen can look good. Glad Atkins went after a solid arm. Go after Hader now as well haha
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Is there any word on when we can expect to see Green? He’s supposed to have an outing in AAA next. Could be with the team by the end of next week

Romano had done absolutely nothing to warrant being removed as closer.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Who are we kicking off the 40 man for this? . White has been dfa'd
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Romano had done absolutely nothing to warrant being removed as closer. Who said he did?
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 . White has been dfa'd A few weeks too late, but the right move.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Romano had done absolutely nothing to warrant being removed as closer. Not in save situations. However, tie games, he is one of the last guys I would go to.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Who said he did? You are speculating whether Romano will be removed as closer. If he's done nothing to warrant being removed from this spot why would you even bring it up as a topic for discussion unless you thought there was a reason to do so?
bronson44 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Keegan Matheson @KeeganMatheson The trade is official: #BlueJays acquire: RHP Jordan Hicks Cardinals acquire: RHP Sem Robberse RHP Adam Kloffenstein Mitch White has been DFA'd to make room on the 40-man.

hanton Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 This move was necessary. Hicks is going to be good - he hasn't thrown alot of high leverage innings like he used to but in our pen might use him as a bridge to 8 and 9
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Solid trade, pricey, but much needed.

He's pitched in high leverage situations.
