Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Author Posted July 30, 2023 What a f***ing dingleberry this guy is^^^^ lmao. It's the market price idiot, there were other teams in on him. Well duhh... it was also the same market price when AA traded for all the guys he did back in 2015 and reportedly got blasted for it.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Beeeeyooooootch! lol https://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/11074-GDT-1-3-Los-Angeles-Angels-Toronto-Blue-Jays-(Friday-7-10-ET)?p=1723871&viewfull=1#post1723871 That was referring to Hader. And I didn't complain about this trade. I was surprised. Only time will tell if this is a good deal or not.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 It's too bad the Blue Jays have one of baseball's worst minor league systems. They must have had to move several top prospects for Hicks. Oh wait, they moved a few middle of the pack back end rotation options. There is a wave of middle infielders currently filling the roster in Buffalo, but those don't count obviously. The team had a rotation full of legitimate prospects that allowed this trade to be made without touching any of the top prospects, so it's not nearly as dire as you are trying to portray.

Prices at the deadline are much higher now than they used to be due to the much larger pool of potential contenders. If the front office moves the likes of Tiedemann and Orelvis for rental players then you can go ahead and bitch about how they emptied the farm like AA did.

I obviously didn't mean my comment for only this trade but for the overall situation we're in. We def needed an arm like Hicks so I'm more happy with the big roster than I was before the trade. Just 1 more high impact bat and we're good to go imo.

Teo would be a perfect fit for this roster.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Pusso. You trying to scrap in the Teddy's Parking Lot at midnight big boy?
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 This is a good deal and done at the right time
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Good deal. Sucks trading SP depth, but that is all Robberse and Kloffenstein are at the moment. Both have warts and not much stand out at this time. Not a bad trade given the need for back end RP with Romano down, Swanson broken, Garcia chucking runs, and Pearson a complete wildcard
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Atkins and Co. obviously decided a while ago that they could dump Kloffenstien/Robberse. Would love to get a sneak peek at the white board in Atkins office with all the names on it. As of right now, which bullpen in the AL would you rather have over ours?

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Honestly excited about Hicks high velocity. He's pitching the best he's ever had and he's motivated to get paid. It's not very often a young elite reliever goes on the market. He's only 26. He will be 27 to start next Season. Will be interesting to see what he will command. And he's going to be pitching a lot of high leverage the rest of the way.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Well of course we're better at the major league level. I'm just mentioning how piss poor our "waves of young talent" is looking like in the farm system. This is what Shatkins built their entire motto over. Just found the "all in" moves hilarious when we're not even a better team now than we were back in 2015. That's all lol. Regardless, team this needs 1 more high impact bat and I think we're in a good spot. 2015 team had an excellent offense but literally 3 starters and like 2 relievers. You are not remembering correctly. This team has a far better record than the 2015 did at the deadline. And the deadline prices are much higher now due to expanded playoffs

When are they gonna cash out on Zulueta though. He's still listed high on a top of a lot of publications top propsect list for the Blue Jays. But after this Season his value has had to have plummeted. A team that was high on him before still might be willing to make him a key piece of a trade. Jays still need an Outfield Bat.

And the deadline prices are much higher now due to expanded playoffs Osuna/Cecil/Sanchez were a pretty damn elite trio of relievers. Price/Estrada/Stroman was a good trio of SP for a playoff series. I don't expect anything close to the run we made in 2015 so having a better record at the moment probably doesn't as much to me. Good point about the expanded playoffs increasing the price for trades though.

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 If reports are correct and the Jays beat out the Dodgers and the Rays, and who knows who else, Atkins just bagged the elephant in terms of RP's available. Extend Atkins now!! I may just start the "Extend Atkins" thread to piss off a host of posters on this board (you know who you are).

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Author Posted July 30, 2023 You can't qualify a traded player. Damn... wish we could have had more locked up for more than 2 months. He's been an intriguing arm ever since I first saw him in the bigs.

That 2015 rotation was Dickey, Estrada, Buehrle… and scrubs. Osuna and Sanchez were great yeah but unproven Rookies. Cecil was having a good run but he didn’t have much relief experience at the time.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 I swear somewhere AA is laughing at Shatkins for the moves they've made the past few years that have led to us having one of the worst Farm Systems in the game. At least when AA did it, we had the best team in baseball on paper. Right now, we could easily still finish last in our division lol. Name one prospect Atkins has traded that we now regret.

In the end, seems like a good philosophy to try to capitalize on your windows while you can no matter the expense of your farm system. Let's go get a high end bat like Teo and keep pushing!!
