hanton Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 They obviously see something and their FO deserves some benefit of the doubt. But Pierce Johnson does not have a good track record. If we made the same deal the goblins of the board would have crawled out of their holes to talk about how s***** Atkins is. Braves FO are a step ahead of us.... What if Iglesias goes down? now you have a late inning pitcher you can throw into leverage situations What if Johnson gets an important out or 2 during the post season? either nail down a game or even to clinch a series. I'm sure it would be worth giving up those specs AA is well aware of the limitations of a pitcher like this. That's all this deal is
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Cody Bellinger is not "back" but he has salvaged his career and was a good signing for the Cubbies Basically, yes.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Cody Bellinger is not "back" but he has salvaged his career and was a good signing for the Cubbies Think we can all agree on this. He had some miserable years with LA and tried to reinvent himself and its been successful this season. Will it be effective long term only time will tell. He has been luckier but he has also made a s*** load of more contact than he has in previous years. The strikeout rate difference is astonishing. He's basically a completely different type of hitter but maintained the Defense and Base running.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 ok continue... I did, edit above.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 I did, edit above. ah... What about Minter? where is waving from?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 ah... What about Minter? where is waving from? He's the set up man, and emergency closer. Yates, Jiminez and others are above PJ man. It's simple, no? Why are you being facetious?
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 No because with our luck he underperforms his xwOBA by 60 points instead of overperforming it by that amount and he produces a WAR near zero. Would have also prevented us from signing KK and the entire thing would have been a tits up disaster. Everyone knows I'm right. That’s Daulton Varsho you’re thinking of
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 That’s Daulton Varsho you’re thinking of Oof...

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Minter is on the IL with shoulder issues I know, and he'll be back this week, man? PJ still has no reflection I'd hope.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Yankees are going to pick up Grichuk at the trade deadline and he will seek revenge on the Jays. ....unless his buddy Atkins beats them to it.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Would Juan Soto be available? What do you think he would cost?
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 According to mbltr. d'backs and Orioles interested in Ohtani. Oh my
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 O's have the pieces to land him! They could trade a huge package like Joey Ortiz, Connor Norby, and Heston Kjerstad. It would not hurt them long term much at all. They would not have to trade any of their top ~5 or so prospects. I'd be shocked if they did it though, for a rental player even if it is Ohtani.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 According to mbltr. d'backs and Orioles interested in Ohtani. Oh my The Orioles are by far the most logical place. 9 top 100 prospects. Several young studs already making nothing. A payroll of 90 mil that they should be able to add 70+ mil on. They have done a ridiculous job drafting and developing the past several years.

It might go down to the wire, Angels are currently 4.5 games back of the last WC spot with the Yankees and Red Sox ahead of them - so they would have to believe that WC is reachable - otherwise let him walk for nothing. And that organization can definiley use some good prospects

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 I would love the Orioles to trade for Ohtani. Let them gut their system for 2 months of a guy they could never even hope to resign. I’d love to see Holliday and 3+ others head off to LA instead of being in division. Never happen though. Angelos and company are morons, but they aren’t that dumb.

Angelos and company are morons, but they arenÂ’t that dumb. The guys that have nailed every top 5 draft pack, correctly going against industry rankings and passing on Jones and Martin are morons? Also, Angelos is 94 and has nothing to do with running the team anymore. His son (also an Angelos admittedly) runs things now, and all signs are he is a very bright guy.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 They are in first place. The Yankees suck. If now isn't the time to go for it, there isn't a time to go for it. They are young, haven't called up most of their prospects yet so are playing for the mythical sustainable winner, if they make a move I am betting it will be for players with control. They are smart enough to know the playoffs are random and will play for the next 5 shots at it, not just this one. In fact they are playing for a really long run, 10 shots at it so at some point they may start thinking of 40 man roster issues and make moves with their older prospects, perhaps for a combination of players that can help now and really young prospects. Mike Elias is the greatest front office executive of all time, his moves will shock you in their brilliance, in fact forget 10 year run, Elias is playing for a 20 year 2000 win run which will change the nature of his game (the run will be continued by his apprentice if Elias leaves for the Yankees or Red Sox or something).
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Do you move Vladdy for Ohtani straight up if Ohtani comes with a contract extension at roughly 10/500M?
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Id love it if we could get Joe Kelly. Throwing harder than ever, K% a career high, BB% career low. Everything points at a elite RP profile. Just get him off that awful White Sox team and their defence and I bet he would be our best RP.
