Looks to be pretty good against lefties and his defense in the corner OF looks to be pretty decent as well.

 

He seems like a better fit for the roster than Lukes given 2 of our 3 starting OFers are lefties. But more than anything he's probably good depth. If an OF were to go down we could probably platoon him and Lukes in an OF corner spot and get passable production.

I'm surprised he was assigned to AAA and not flipped with Lukes on the MLB roster. Maybe they want to see if he still has a pulse before putting him into a spot where he'd be expected to contribute. Good depth for sure.

Same. Maybe they want to see what they've got with him for a week or two.

 

I love these lefty mashers though. Great depth pieces to have around to patch up the roster when you inevitably need them.

 

His defense (particularly his arm; he has a cannon) and base running look okay too so he's not just a one trick pony.

Yea its a smart move. Hes proven to be able to hit Lefties in his career. Hes not a bad Outfielder either.

He played the roll of the 26th man. He got to pinch run 3 times. They aren't suppose to play a lot. Thats why you didn't want Otto Lopez sitting around doing nothing.

 

Lukes biggest issues are he can't hit and hes not faster or a better Defender than any of our Outfielders. Usually your extra Outfielder is a speed guy, better Defender, or platoon bat. Lukes was none of those.

Yeah especially that one AB, two middle middle fastballs in a row to start the at bat and he looked way late. Hopefully just needs a few ABs to get settled in.
