I also think people shouldn't get credit for any prediction made after the first pitch on opening day... You'll have to get your bragging rights elsewhere, cheaters!

Kikuchi hasn't thrown a pitch yet. My 200K prediction should be fine.

Kikuchi hasn't taken the mound yet. My bold prediction is okay.

I agree. If your prediction 'hits' - you should still get the max amount of fake internet points.

What about bold predictions that run counter to early trends?

Bassit wins 15 and gets ERA under 3.5 by end of season. Same with Berrios.

Belt is AL player of the month in May and wins DH silver slugger.

Berrios is going to post a Sub 3.50era this year and is going to start game 2 of the ALDS

I know it’s early but not improbable lol

I know it isn't kosher for BP in June...but I make the f***ing rules around here. Alek Manoah wins a playoff game for the Jays in 2023

And if he doesn't, will you go streaking at the Rogers Centre?

How are those bold predictions looking for everyone at the half way mark? I might have been a little overly optimistic on the position player side...

Biggio returns to form and makes over 100 starts with a wRC+ over 110.

Kiermaier loses his starting job by June and we are forced to make a deadline addition.

Kikuchi ends the season with an ERA under 4.

Orelvis Martinez is back to being a top 50 prospect by the end of the season.

1. Really close on Biggio. If not for his poor April, it would be correct.

2. Well I f***ed that up

3. Nailed it

4. Some lists will definitely have him top 50. He's right in that range.

I've had some real stinkers in previous iterations of this thread. This is definitely one of my best.

All are huge longshots but you asked for BOLD predictions so I'm going to give 'em to ya.:

Danny Jansen stays healthy all year

Craig Biggio's son establishes himself as a bon a fide Major League Baseball player and starter for the Jays

Cody Bellinger bounces back with a big season

The Orioles win 90+

BOLD

These might have you beat Grant. Still 3 for 4 but …they were in bold.

Yankees win less than 85 games and miss the playoffs.

That's it from me.

Congratulations to the New York Yankees for their 31st winning season in a row with an 82-80 record.

And congratulations to Dick_Pole for correctly predicting the Yankees win less than 85 and miss the playoffs.

He made the Biggio prediction in jest and still nailed it. Definitely the best set of predictions so far.

Jays have a top 5 pen

Belt + Kiermaier combine for 6 WAR

Bo Bichette MVP

Barger top 3 in ROY voting

Belt and Kiermaier got 4.5 fWAR, 5.9 bWAR and both missed a lot of time.

Barger got an elbow injury I think and had his power reduced, with an operation or two he should be top 3 in ROY next year (at least that's what I'd to think, Barger = the next Bo Bichette except his elbow hurt but it will get fixed)

Posted
I like these overall, but I don't like who has to get hurt for Barger to be top 3 in ROY voting.

Well I guess Bo Bichette would have had to get hurt for an MILB infielder to get playing time, which eventually he did but it was Schneider who got a little bit of playing time, until it became apparent that he just couldn't hold a 1400 OPS and they benched him (I know he eventually went 0/30 but the benching began before that).

2024 prediction

Orelvis starting 3B

Barger starting 2B/LF

Could still be true, but likely Schneider and the rejuvenated Biggio are first in line if there are no new signings or trades. If those 2 fail and the others do good at Buffalo could easily see them in May.

Getting this in before Greenwood - Danny Jansen stays injury free, hits 30+ HR, wins Silver Slugger

Jansen tried but kept getting hit by pitches or foul balls and stuff.

The one prediction that is absolutely correct is the Yankees dont win the division. Jays win walking away and the Yanks have to fight off the Rays for second.

Congratulations to the Baltimore Orioles for winning 101 games and the division.

Otto Lopez is interesting. A better minor league hitter and faster than Espinal, so if he adjusted to the majors as well as Espinal did in 2021 he'd have a great year (though not sure how he gets the apr. 145 games he'd need to content for ROY).

Lopez is like forgotten now and several infielders, Barger, Schneider, Orelvis, Palmegianni, Jiminez and Ernie Clement leaped ahead of him. In a year where the international league played like Coors Field in the middle of the steroid era Lopez couldn't hit at all.

Berrios is our 2nd best pitcher

Varsho stinks the joint offensively

Chapman is the 2nd best offensive player on the team and gets MVP votes

Biggio becomes our everyday 2nd baseman

This was actually really close. Berrios arguably 2nd best pitcher. Biggio became everyday second baseman by September, Chapman led team in fWAR I believe and it wouldn't have taken much to overtake Vlad as second best offensive player, but I guess that was mainly because the entire team was mediocre.

Kirk could conceivably hit low .200s to start the season with some bad babip luck, but it's almost inconceivable for him to do so for an extended timeframe once he gets enough bats. His bat to ball skills are ridiculous. When you're 98th percentile in K% and 87th percentile in BB% hitting low .200s is not possible.

Kirk was hitting .217 on May 15th and .230 on July 19th with a .298 slugging. You are right though it is hard to do this, with such a low strike out rate for 400 at bats as he finished at .250 with a .360 slugging. Hopefully he shows up in better shape next year.

Blue Jays play .540 ball

Vasho leads the team in doubles

More to come......

Turned out to be .549 and they clinched the last playoff spot in dramatic fashion 4 hours after game 161, (which they lost to Tampa Bay), watching Luis Castillo have a rare off night.
