Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Really? We traded Hill and Johnny Mac for him, he had put up a 5 win season the year prior for the D-Backs, he s*** the bed, lol. this is why no one remembers him, hot garbage infested with maggots
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Didn’t he start smoking crack of something. I’m going to Google Yup
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Yup Doug Ford was his dealer
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 I also saw he got suspended for 60 days (cocaine) and missed the World Series in 91. Didn’t remember that until I read it

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Picture of the teeth would probably tell the story better
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Now I’m recalling that NYY RP that kept getting suspended over and over for cocaine. Of course Gooden and Strawberry come to mind. Surprised nobody gets popped for that anymore
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Traded for this fellow #2... One of only 2 players to play for all 5 AL East teams.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Steve Howe? Yeah. That was him. Googled earlier.
The_DH Verified Member Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Look at Howe's K/9. It was a different era.

The_DH Verified Member Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 Tony Fernandez will always be the real #1, just like Stieb #37. The rest just don't compare.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 Was definitely my favourite Blue Jay as a kid. Had this jersey as well as much as I hated this era of uniform

Yeah, and we was here in 4 different stints, all with #1. Only 5 different players wore it from 1977 - 2001 (Bailor, Fernandez, Eddie Zosky, Tomas Perez and Mickey Morandini), but 15 players have worn it since.

Yeah the team these days doesn't have much respect for the history of the game. Robbie Alomar was a big part of why we won two world series. But he disappears.

I still think the no blue was stupid but as a throwback uni that isn't for everyday use I think they carry a certain charm.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 Yeah the team these days doesn't have much respect for the history of the game. Robbie Alomar was a big part of why we won two world series. But he disappears. It's a tough situation. The team was exposed to sexual harassment lawsuits and keeping him around or on the Level of Excellence could be seen as them not taking allegations like that seriously. I'm hopeful that someday the franchise is allowed to quietly acknowledge his existence.

Robbie Alomar was a big part of why we won two world series. But he disappears. Sorry, but this sounds like old boomer talk. Robbie Alomar has been banned from MLB for allegations of sexual assault (https://www.thestar.com/sports/bluejays/2022/08/24/roberto-alomar-not-invited-to-blue-jays-30th-world-series-anniversary-celebration.html). He's also spit in an umpires face - so there's a few reasons not to celebrate him. What more do you expect the Jays to do to 'respect the history of the game'? Are you suggesting they shouldn't have let anyone else wear #1 after Tony retired?

And in terms of the history of the game, I mean don't give numbers like 4, 6 and 7 to pitchers. I hate to see them.

I'm not aware of any.
The_DH Verified Member Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 Are there any MLB teams that do no allow pitchers to wear single digit numbers? I'm not aware of any. There are only a few pitchers that actually wear single digits. I was reading an article and I believe Blake Snell is the only all star pitcher with a single digit. I know I'm in the extreme minority here but to me if a pitcher wears a single digit, he's not a real pitcher.
Virgil_Hiltz Verified Member Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 For today's countdown we should honor Cliff Johnson and AL Oliver who both wore 0. What did Tajuan Walker wear? Google said he wore 0 here. Even though I said Cliff Johnson wore 0, I thought he wore 00. Anyone confirm or deny?

Johnson's familiar 44 was taken by Jeff Burroughs. Also Canseco wore 00 when he first signed, then 44 came available and then his standard 33.

The_DH Verified Member Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 As I posted earlier, Cliff Johnson's leaving as a free agent was the move that got us Tom Henke as compensation. That move finally solidified the bullpen that had always been unreliable. That move led to a great all around team.
