I’m not using the benefit of Google June 3, 1997: Drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 1st round (22nd pick) of the 1997 amateur draft. Player signed June 13, 1997. December 11, 2000: Traded by the Baltimore Orioles to the Toronto Blue Jays for John Bale. March 29, 2004: Traded by the Toronto Blue Jays to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Jason Frasor.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Man, they just threw away prospects back then huh? John Bale SUCKED HARD according to B-R... Werth wasnt even all that good before they Jays traded him. Minor league track record was meh, the 100 or so PAs he got with the jays were ... meh.
The_DH Verified Member Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Man, they just threw away prospects back then huh? John Bale SUCKED HARD according to B-R... I seem to remember hearing good things about Bale. And Werth was definitely a prospect.

March 29, 2004: Traded by the Toronto Blue Jays to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Jason Frasor. The Werth for Frasor trade was so irritating back then. If I recall, coming off his big 2003 season, the Jays saw Reed Johnson as a starting OF for 2004, so the expectation was to have a Cat/Wells/Johnson OF. Obviously, that meant Cat needed a platoon partner, but instead of keeping Werth and using him in that role, they trade him for Frasor and have Simon Pond (a LHB) as the backup OF. It looks worse in hindsight knowing what Werth turned into, but such a horrible use of assets by JP. Reading this thread and being reminded of the Ash and JP years has officially depressed me. Those of us who lived through it and are still here deserve a lot of credit.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Yeah in hindsight that trade looks real bad. Jason Frasor had some good seasons out of the pen in Toronto, but Jayson Werth definitely provided more value from 2007-2010 with the Phillies. Dodgers got rid of Werth after 2005 and Werth missed all of 2006. Jays also had Wells and Rios in their OF along with Cat/Johnson in 2006 so who knows if Werth was going to stay around that long and get an opportunity in 2007 with the Jays.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 How do I post a youtube video? I've got a nice throwback moment I wanted to share in this thread.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 This isn't specific to the countdown but since this thread also contains a lot of throwback Jays and reminiscing about guys and moments we barely remember how about this one? Frank Thomas hitting his 500th home run in one of those infamous black Blue Jays jerseys in 2007.

Thomas hit so many home runs when it looked like he was way out front on those low and away pitches, but he was soo...damn... strong.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 The only #12 in Blue Jays history that matters. I believe they have quietly unretired #12 its no longer listed.
