Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Not sure that’s true. Football has far, far more casual female fans than any other sport. It’s just a matter of one bending to the pressure more than the other. Mlb vs NFL I mean I never really thought about that - but I think you're right. Is it? Anyone know why that is?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I never really thought about that - but I think you're right. Is it? Anyone know why that is? One day a week committment. Plus people watch at family gatherings and in groups so they probably have more exposure to it.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Yeah less time commitment + football is much, much less about actually watching the sports game lol

It’s just a matter of one bending to the pressure more than the other. Mlb vs NFL I mean 46% female fans last year. Online engagement up 21% last year from female fans. When the NFL lost the angry old men 7 years ago. They did everything right from a marketing point of view. They got rid of the bedazzled merch (well except Dallas who always had a solid female fanbase) and went with women's only events, and fanclubs and groups. Most teams actually hired women to market to women (novel idea). Gambling will be next area that markets to women. Baseball was really the first to start this but for some reason the consensus was that baseball was a safe place for female fans and most teams went away from it.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I'd take him on a minimum contract in a heartbeat but the Jays definitely won't based on how the Osuna/Escobar sagas played out, wouldn't be surprised if the Astros poached him

It's a good point that football is a lot less about the team and more about the 'party' - which certainly seems like a way to draw in other types of fans, including women. That said - every Bills game I've ever been to was a complete s*** show. Not the type of environment you'd bring your wife unless she enjoys the party (albeit lots do) - and certainly not a place I've ever considered bringing my kids to. I have to think my kids would need to be teenagers before I'd take them to a football game - which I always thought was kind of sad.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 My first NFL game was when I was 15yo and I went on a bus trip with an extra older cousin. To Buffalo. I drank with adults pre-game and for some strange reason, they decided not to card me in the stadium and I got wasted. I puked most of the 4 hour bus ride home lol.

In Denver it's a pretty family friendly atmosphere. But at some games in other cities I felt like I might get stabbed.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I'm not following this. . Baseball had lots of women's groups and meetups for almost a decade. I know the Jays did as many on our old board participated. Marketing in baseball has moved to digital and the focus on community is more of a Jays Care thing now. That's true throughout the MLB. As recent as 2015, MLB had the highest percentage among the big 4 in female fans. NFL passed them overall and in under 35 NBA and NFL passed MLB. I don't know much about NBA's marketing strategies, but it was a direct effort by the NFL to get these women. MLB dropped their efforts at the same time (probably because they need under 35 males more). The strategies in getting men and women into the stadium are very different.

Baseball was really the first to start this but for some reason the consensus was that baseball was a safe place for female fans and most teams went away from it. The bold part threw me off - are you saying Baseball concluded it was already a safe place for female fans (and women already felt that way), so they stopped trying to market that point? Whereas the NFL didn't believe women felt games were safe for them (even if they were), so their marketing was focused on getting the message out that women are safe and will have fun at the game?

It is a phrase used a lot in Women in Sports groups. Men want action (agression) in the their sports, whether is live or online. Women want safety, which generally means less interaction with men. It's very generalized statement that I probably shouldn't make, and it will shift over the next 10 years.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 I'm gonna make sure I tell 10 women in the office tomorrow that Football is not for them. They don't understand it, and they're not meant to understand it. I'm thinking I will get a positive reaction.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 I don't think it was this thread. But I read in one of them that Boston is a prime destination for Bauer. Then someone started chiming in with Boston being a liberal city. In voting patterns maybe. But not when it comes to inviting in degenerates and being degenerates themselves. Known as the most racist city in the north. Remember that time that dude threw a beer can at the World Series trophy and damaged it? No? That's because that behaviour is so par for the course from the fan base it's not even a big deal. Bauer would fit in just fine at Fenway. Well maybe not so much pitching half his games at Fenway. A large part of that is determined by the owner not the fanbase. The Celtics just suspended Udoka for a year, not sure that chimes with Boston accepting degenerates. The Yankees accepted Chapman until his performance degraded. According to Wilner that was unacceptable. The Yankee fanbase in my experience is far more degenerate than Boston's. In Boston you have a lot of University "trust the science" types, Havard, MIT, etc. In Yankees fandom you have a lot of degenerate Wall Street Stock bros who think Bauer is innocent and the vaccine kills you. Obviously a fan base is made of many factions. There are degenerates in every fanbase, including Toronto's. Perhaps because Fenway is near a lot Universities and downtown the crowd trends young and what degenerates there are, are loud and obvious, while say in Kansas City, the degenerates are quieter and not as obvious (though there are more). Based on my experience Bauer would be far more accepted in the midwest.. mostly because there is a 'do your time, then come back' attitude, not this disown your Dad for life because he voted for Trump attitude we see in the Northeast.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 A lot of negative opinions but still wondering what he’s guilty of. Is he cocky? Yes. Is he over the top? Probably. Apparently likes to have consensual kinky rough sex in his free time. Why anyone should care about that blows my mind. Like he literally posted tweets of her asking for it. You know there’s girls on tinder full on asking dudes to choke them out in their bios lol. Its not for me but I don’t give a f*** what people do behind closed doors.
