jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 Met someone at the senior center and is getting his noodle wet. Out of the basement. I feel like he’s abandoned the brotherhood come playoff time. Disappointed Spanky is secretly cheering for the Orioles in the Postseason.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 (edited) Spanky is secretly cheering for the Orioles in the Postseason. There are several board members openly cheering for the Orioles, but I get the feeling Spanky would rather commit seppuku instead of cheering for anyone other than the Blue Jays. I agree this Max! He is as hard core true blue glass half full Jays fan as exists. I loathe the O's. Edwin's 2016 walk off is one of the best moments this Board ever had trolling the "O's Hangout" with their "Real life celebrity" Roy Firestone. Boxy's finest hour. I cant imagine anyone cheering for them over the Jays.

Spanky's second favourite team is the Pirates. A Blue Jays/Pirates World Series would be awesome! I would definitely make the drive down to Pittsburgh!
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 Would you rather face a well rested Os team in a best of 5 or face them in the ALCS best of 7? Honestly best of 7 vs the Os probably favors us?? But they kicked our s*** in all year so i’d rather not face them at all
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 I want Minnesota so bad. We have nothing to play for today. Both Texas and Houston are playing for the Division so I think they both go for the win. I honestly don't care even with our painful Tampa history. 2/3 is so random and such a crap shoot. About all you can reasonably count on is Glasnow and Gausman will give you a decent chance to win 1. But even then, look at SEA last night and Castillo having his worst start of the season. So random. The Rays lost McClanahan, Springs and Rasmussen, Lowe and Wander. Worse than us losing Bo, Manoah, Gausman. How they are still competitive is shocking....but there is vulnerability.

I put a healthy Rays team right up there with the Braves as one of baseball's best teams, but they are so injury riddled right now that they are ripe for the picking. That team deserves a ton of credit for their organizational depth as they seem to be able to overcome a litany of injuries every season and keep on winning a ton of games.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 I have no problem playing the Rays in the WC since they aren't the same team back in May/June when they were healthy. Rays are still a good team but they're missing big key pieces. I don't think the Twins will be a walkover considering their excellent rotation of Gray, Lopez and Ryan/Ober.

Reminds me of 2016 when we were all chomping at the bit to play the Indians. That didn’t work out so well.

That moment was euphoric, I only have some vague memories of kicking and punching towards the TV and yelling triumphant profanities, waking up the baby. Even the baby hated the O's.

That didn’t work out so well. Yup, I was also thinking the Royals in 2015 and Cleveland in 2016 in the ALCS were going to be easy paths to the World Series. Didn't turn out that way. The plus with playing the Twins is you would possibly face the Rangers in the ALDS if they win the division instead of the Orioles. Not sure how the Rangers/Astros tiebreaker works. Would actually rather play the Orioles instead of the Astros in the ALDS. Regardless, I'm just happy the Jays are in!

These aren't the first half Rays, but still a great team. The Rays are clearly harbouring some secret cloning technology where they can manufacture generic looking pitchers with plus stuff and 100mph velocity. Even their names sound fake. Kevin Kelly? Colin Poche? They're not fooling anyone with this s***. The only thing this organization needs is a better random name generator.

I rank that 2016 AL Wildcard game as one of the Top 5 sporting events I've attended. In no particular order: - 2015 ALDS Game 5: Rangers vs. Blue Jays (Bautista Bat Flip) - 2016 AL Wildcard: Orioles vs. Blue Jays (EE walk-off HR) - 2019 NBA East Semifinals Game 7: 76ers vs. Raptors (Kawhi with the winning shot) - 2017 Grey Cup in Ottawa: Argos vs. Stampeders (huge snowstorm and Argos with an epic comeback) - 2019 NBA East Finals Game 6: Bucks vs. Raptors (Raps win to make their first ever NBA Finals)

I imagine some of those tickets costs a pretty penny but were well damn worth it.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 You sir, have attended some epic events. I imagine some of those tickets costs a pretty penny but were well damn worth it. I was able to purchase seats for those Jays games the first day Postseason seats went on sale. I remember prices for Game 5 against the Rangers were selling for cheap on StubHub at the time. The 2016 AL Wildcard tickets on StubHub were expensive. I bought one pair and a single seat for myself during the Jays sale. Resold that pair which paid for my single seat. I have Raptors season tickets so had special membership prices. I was so close not going to that Game 7 against the 76ers. I was looking to sell my tickets since I went to one game that series already. Tickets were selling below face value on TM and people from Kijijji were even offering way less than face value. So I was like WTF. Me and my dad hopped in an Uber last minute and went down to the game. Definitely was worth it and glad nobody bought those tickets off me haha. Those Grey Cup tickets were expensive. I believe $250 each seat me and my buddy paid. But definitely worth the experience. As well the night before in Ottawa was a blast and Shania put on a great halftime show haha. Definitely got lucky attending those games.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 I would rather play the O's in the ALCS than the Astros. Astros have championship pedigree and that counts in the pressure chamber that is mlb playoffs. Quite frankly what worries me most about the Jays this post season is the in game tactics employed by one John Schneider. I honestly am not sure what to expect of him.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 That’s too bad JJ seems like a good dude
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 Yeah I was rooting for Jay Jackson. Tough break. Good guy with a good story. Not sure I would have trusted him in a playoff game but I can say the same about Richards given how he’s pitched, and he’s likely making it.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 That’s too bad JJ seems like a good dude I really liked his competitiveness. It’s a shame. However, he started giving up HR balls at an unacceptable rate…
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 The team needed to choose a player who wasn't going to make the playoff roster in order to make a spot for Parsons. He's been a bubble player all year. Unfortunate for him, but hardly a 'dick move'. I hope he returns next year.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 Damn... to get cut from the team this at this stage is heartless. Couldn't Bowden just pitch today?
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 Damn... to get cut from the team this at this stage is heartless. Couldn't Bowden just pitch today? No because someone had to be demoted for Francis to be added to the 28 man roster as well and anyone demoted couldn't pitch in the WC or ALDS as they'd have to be down for 15 days. Mayza and Cabrera had options but they need them. Ryu could have been DFA'd but they might need him in the ALDS if they make it. It was more a 28 man roster decision than a 40 man roster decision. But once it's decided that Jackson is the odd man out and he has to be DFA'd to get off the 28 man roster that opens up the 40 man spot too and your options grow to basically anyone in the organization.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 Damn... to get cut from the team this at this stage is heartless. Couldn't Bowden just pitch today? This was probably a courtesy move so he can spend more time with his wife and baby
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 This was probably a courtesy move so he can spend more time with his wife and baby yeah, and he’ll still get a ring when the Jays win the Series.
