Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 How soon are we to having Dan and Ben Shulman calling games for the Jays? I've enjoyed listening to Ben on the radio this year.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 it's pretty rare for a FA to re-sign anyway, the last one that I can remmber is LeMahieu. FA's will normally just go to the highest bidder - and so they should
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 I'd want no part of Chapman on a big contract in his 30's. Let him leave as a FA. Ideally the Jays would use some of their AAA depth to fill 2024 holes, but a lot will depend on how they finish the season. If they make the playoffs, then job security is a bit more secure so they might be willing to take a risk on a younger talent, but if they miss the playoffs, then my guess is it will be vetrin central next season. The way they have used Davis Schneider so far doesn't give me much hope of them going the younger route next season so we should probably anticipate stopgaps regardless.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 You dont want Chapman back...... I will take him back at the right price. He's kinda bombing his money right now though.
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 I will take him back at the right price. He's kinda bombing his money right now though. Maybe if we did not have Barger and Olervis in AAA. No need to spend money on a declining Chapman.

They are going to be on this team. I view Barger as more of a Utility guy. But Martinez when he comes up will be playing everyday somewhere. Whether it's 3B or 2B. Not ruling out LF for him either. With that being said I am not going to pass at bringing back Veterans at good prices. It would be quite interesting if they moved on from Kiermaier, Merrifield, Belt, and Chapman and just replaced them with rookies. Schneider, Barger, Martinez, and Howritz.

I'll miss Belt if they don't try to attain the man, I'd offer a similar contract at 10M to come back. The Jays can't expect that many AAA guys stepping in, can't see it... should be an interesting offseason coming up.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Even though Vladito's been scuffling all year he's been decent the last 2 weeks with a .295 BA and .766 OPS, he's missing that ooomph... .091 ISO and .386 SLG is still rough... here's to hoping. Please, be better Vlad!

Please, be better Vlad! A .766 OPS is horrendous for an all bat 1B, like legitimately below replacement level. The power numbers needless to say are vomit inducing not just for the position, but his build and former track record.

WryNGinger Verified Member Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 Vlad going the Eric Hinske and Brett Lawrie route Playing way below expectations and still acting like a clown with his ice baths and strutting around with his shirt untucked pisses me off. I have watched his progress since we signed him all those years ago and was really excited watching him advance up each level but he is becoming one of my least favourite Jay's. Add to that his "safe" calls when he is running and (to me) he has become a guy I want to see humbled so he starts respecting the game and his talents more.

If he hasnt been humbled by this year or even last year then its not happening, it wont get through his thick skull.

I was hoping removing the Barrio and creating a new culture would help but nope He’s very immature and has been told how great he is his entire life. He probably becomes a superstar at 28 when he finally begins to grow up.
