The way the roster is currently constructed Ernie should get sent back to AAA. Not sure who loses their 40 man spot. We only have 4 "OFs" on the 40 man.

Funny that Schneider was not protected in the latest rule 5. This group is luckier than good at talent evaluation.

 

I had a buddy share Joel Payamps number with me this season. i always wondered WHY he was released when we need a BP arms in 2021 and he had a 2.70 ERA over 30 IP.

This year he is

51.1 IP

1.93 ERA

.857 WHIP

59 Ks

 

I will file this beside Jason Adams who had a 2.91 ERA for Jays in 2019 who was also deemed not good enough and let go for nothing.

He has given up 58 hits over the last two years in 106 IP...not bad

 

I will save Bryan Baker and others for another day

This was an incredibly risky signing by the Red Sox. He'd thrown 21 2/3 innings since 2019 and was coming off TJ surgery, following years of back injuries. This was 100% a lottery ticket that 'hit'. Certainly a risk that teams with deep pockets can take. If they weren't in contention, he would have also been a great trade chip at the deadline too.

June Update: It’s been a slow burn for Schneider, who was a 2017 28th-round pick out of Eastern High in Voorhees, N.J. He broke out in 2022, climbing three levels and hitting .253/.366/.457 across 113 games. He returned to Triple-A to begin 2023 and has shown improved power both in his home run total and his exit velocity data. In 2022 Scheider showed a strong combination of approach, contact and average power. He’s now showing above-average impact in games as his average exit velocity jumped from 88 mph in 2022 to 91 mph so far in 2023. This added impact makes Schneider an interesting hitter with above-average impact and plate skills. He’s a versatile defender who’s seen time at second, in the outfield corners and his natural position of third base.

Yep - reminds me a lot of Scott Rolen. I never viewed Rolen as this offensive powerhouse, but that combination of offensive production, solid base running and elite defense was pretty special at 3rd base.

 

I undervalued Rolen when he was here because his bat wasn't much above league avg and didn't really appreciate his D as much as I do now.

 

I used to think Ricciardi got robbed and that he was shot when we got him. We live we learn...hopefully.

Relievers are so f***ed. I thought both he and Bass would play big parts in the Jays BP this year and neither have, yet the Jays BP is actually pretty good lol
