Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 I'm hoping Biggio is on the way out
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Describing Chapman as an unseasoned chicken breast is gold. Lol.. A 3.5 WAR chicken breast who we are really going to miss badly in 2024. One of those players who will be most appreciated when they are gone.
The Iceman Verified Member Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 The way the roster is currently constructed Ernie should get sent back to AAA. Not sure who loses their 40 man spot. We only have 4 "OFs" on the 40 man. Funny that Schneider was not protected in the latest rule 5. This group is luckier than good at talent evaluation. I had a buddy share Joel Payamps number with me this season. i always wondered WHY he was released when we need a BP arms in 2021 and he had a 2.70 ERA over 30 IP. This year he is 51.1 IP 1.93 ERA .857 WHIP 59 Ks I will file this beside Jason Adams who had a 2.91 ERA for Jays in 2019 who was also deemed not good enough and let go for nothing. He has given up 58 hits over the last two years in 106 IP...not bad I will save Bryan Baker and others for another day
Sorrow Verified Member Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 I'm hoping Biggio is on the way out I’m hoping it’s Espinal. Biggio is the same defensively and a better base runner and somehow better offensively this year.
The Iceman Verified Member Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Espinal apparently had trade interest from Seattle at the deadline. No way they cut a 2022 all star that has ++ defense at the 3 most important infield positions. Especially over guys like Ernie Clement, Biggio, Hatch or Nathan Lukes.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 I hope Schneider gets the start tonight at 2B and it's not one of those situations where he just gets benched and used as a late game PH every so often.

I never viewed Rolen as this offensive powerhouse, but that combination of offensive production, solid base running and elite defense was pretty special at 3rd base.

Espinal was a really good defensive player but he hasn't been this season, combined with the noodle bat. DeJong is basically a better version of what we hoped Espinal would be, so having both on the roster is redundant even with Bo's injury.

If you PH for DeJong late in the game you need someone to play SS after that.

Jays definitely will miss Chapman, and will be tough to replace him. Unless the Jays pull off a trade for Arenado in the offseason.

I loved watching Rolen here when he was with the Jays, even though it was for a short time.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 I loved watching Rolen here when he was with the Jays, even though it was for a short time. Could never get enough of those perfect throws, seemed like every single one was a chest high bullet with no effort required at all by the 1b to catch
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Regarding Davis Schneider, regardless of who gets the boot for him, lets all agree that he f***ing earned this promo. He's been having a great season but took it to another level entirely in July. 26 walks to 16 Ks. 6 doubles, 1 triple, 6 HRs .348/.540/.725 for an OPS of 1.265 He forced the Jays hand and good for him.

It was refreshing to watch! Glaus offensively was a huge force in this lineup. He actually had a solid year in St. Louis posting a 4.8 WAR in 2008, but then after was done. Jays probably could have used his bat in 2008 though. Rolen was really solid in 2009 and 2010. Still posted 4 + WAR seasons at age 34 and 35.

Schneider up, Clement down and Hatch has been DFA'd with Jackson returning.

polar bear Verified Member Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 I agree. He needs to go. I also can’t stand the ice baths and think most players do too. He is a look at me,aren’t I wonderful, and everyone loves me type of phony. Get rid.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Paxton has been having a solid season. Big time Yay Canada but boo Red Sox Afraid I don't love our chances tonight. Manoah please prove me wrong.

Litmyfyr Verified Member Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Yes it was embarrassing! Thought we had a good team. It is quite mediocre when they stand next to Baltimore!! Too many key players are falling down. Their pants are down around their knees. Too many people are not doing their job when they are needed. This team is an also ran at best!!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Im surprised he’s still alive Yeah he's been healthy for the most part this season. Not a bad signing by the Red Sox when they made it. $10M overall invested starting from 2022.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Yeah he's been healthy for the most part this season. Not a bad signing by the Red Sox when they made it. $10M overall invested starting from 2022. This was an incredibly risky signing by the Red Sox. He'd thrown 21 2/3 innings since 2019 and was coming off TJ surgery, following years of back injuries. This was 100% a lottery ticket that 'hit'. Certainly a risk that teams with deep pockets can take. If they weren't in contention, he would have also been a great trade chip at the deadline too.
