What does a good start tomorrow even tell us if the assessment is results oriented? He is pitching against Detroit... So he does well and then goes and get bombed by the next team he faces..? If it is mental, physical, mechanics, maybe it will tell us something, but I assume they could have assessed that in the minors...

Basically, I am worried about a false positive.

The Tigers have a few thumpers in the lineup that can do damage. If he doesn't walk 4+ it would be a good start.

Agreed and I think that's why they called him up this early. To get more data on him prior to the break.

I think Hurl is right in that they called him up this early to see what they've got up until the trade deadline. If he can show that he can pitch like a decent #4/#5 starter then he and possibly Ryu can hold that spot down for the rest of the year. If not, then they'll need to make a trade for a Lorenzen type.

Isn't there a limit to how many times you can call a guy up and down? Not that Manoah is even close to that limit. However, if it goes bad tonight and they send him back down, that will count as #2 correct? Isn't it like 5 times after a certain amount of games played? IRCR....?

If you option a player back to the minors you can do it as many times as you want in the same season and it only counts as 1 option

I think

Players may only be optioned five times per season; after that, it requires outright assignment waivers to assign the player to the Minor Leagues.

So 5 times per season. So if they did it 4 times in 2023 then they start at 0 for 2024 and they have another 5?

Correct.

they can option anyone up to 5 times per season and it would count as burning 1 option year whether they optioned him once or 5 times.

Based on the reaction of this board I expect Manoah to throw a perfect game with 15 Ks.

Close enough. FO looks like geniuses calling him up for this one AAAA game right before the all-star break.

What was interesting to me was the mound behaviour. He was much more poised / more focussed / less emotional. So a little reset in the minors may have worked.

Between the ears is a big part of pitching.

Most thought the earliest Manoah would be up is post the all star break. Since he is coming up earlier it may indicate that some of his problems were between the ears and Jays management might think they have fixed that. He may surprise us all and be competent. They’re not expecting an elite arm just competence. Perhaps he’s ready.

That was my thought when I heard he got called up. That being said, he may get rocked on his next start against the Dbacks or Padres.:P

I Think the Jays need to have a planned parenthood meeting, everyone having their kids in spring training and the season, can nobody count 9 months and plan this s*** for the off-season? How many Jays have had a kid born this season already?

They’ve lost a lot of games to pat leave and it’s annoying.

People f*** when they f*** dude.

Of all the legitimate things to complain about this team, that's way down on the list.

Gausman not going to the All-Star game is good news. Smart choice by him. Save the bullets

I was watching the D-Backs game and I swear I saw like 15 replacements to the game, lol.

The rest days don’t line up for him to pitch Tuesday. And probably would rather spend time at home with the kids. Good for him

Plus nobody wants to spend time in Seattle if they don’t have to. So gloomy.

Actually, if it is not gloomy, which it hasn't been recently, it is a beautiful place to be. I was just there the other week. The weather was awesome!

They were quick to follow the BJMB acct when it was created and followed all of the accts followers. So a poster here at least in 2017.
