First month will be important for Berrios. Hope he can bounce back and show he's a solid No. 2/3 starter again.

Manoah I expect some regression. The casuals and media make him out as an ace or the Jays best pitcher when Kevin Gausman in fact is their best pitcher.

Bassitt should be a 2-3 WAR pitcher. Mid-rotation guy at best but yeah nothing spectacular. Just hope he can provide solid innings and is consistent.

Prob 20% troll truth in there. But really in bull/bear terms, there’s some justification to all those SP# if one wanted to make it. Bassitt #5 is a bit rough but if he’s going to throw 89, maybe not

you know me too well

Kneejerk. Let’s see how berrios and kooch look this year. Wouldn’t surprise me if bassit is finished though lol

I hope not lol... We got him for 3 years. He's a junk baller who relies on location and deception of pitches. Let's give him a few starts before throwing in the towel.

Not enough velocity or Ks on the blue jays. Not even close actually

Agreed. Remains an ongoing issue.

I don’t think Bassit is going to be pumpkin this Season. But I also was really shocked by the number he got. If we were paying a Free Agent starter 20+ million I would have hoped he had good stuff and missed bats.

I am a little concerned with what I heard from the media surrounding his start. He wants to call his own pitches, he wants catchers set up a specific way, depending on the pitch he is about to throw etc. I don't think we need a high maintenance junk baller and I hope he can just get outs and eat innings.

Didn’t Ricky Romero take to broadcasting? Not a good precedent

What?? Romero went to broadcasting after his knees blew up and he couldn’t pitch anymore. Idk what you’re inferring or if it was supposed to be a joke.

“Weekly correspondent” likely means a 5-10 minute interview from the field each week. Similar to what they do with managers in the dugout during games on occasion.

Are Rivera and Walker actually good at their jobs? They seem to be respected in baseball circles but what you see in their decisions and the results of the prodigies don't pass the eye test.

Rivera seems to flip a coin on sending the runner at third and Walker seems to send pitchers in with only a vague idea of how to attack each teams lineups.

Did Berrios look as bad as his stat line looks?

Oh yeah

His fastballs were bleeding over the heart of the plate all night

His changeup was too high, almost every time he threw it

Bad joke. I like Manoah. The personality, and I’ll take the over on the projections. I do hope if he struggles he stays a little humble though.

I think Bassit needs to let Jansen call the pitches. Maybe give him one more start to see if he's improved, if he's still distracted, Walker needs to step in and tell him how it's gonna be.

If you look at his fangraphs page and ignore his era it actually looks good.

1.86 FIP; 11.12 K/9; 3.18 BB/9; 0.2 WAR (6.4 WAR pace)

7 K's in 5.2 innings, though allowed 11 baserunners.

Hopefully he can bounce back in his second start.

Yeah it wasn't really. There was no bad luck involved IIRC. All the hits by KC were pretty flush.

If he pitches like that against a good offense multiple balls leave the park, I think.

Yeah the Royals just stacked their lineup with garbage lefties and they teed off on him. Hard line drive contact all night. They just have very little power in their lineup. If he throws like that against a good offense it would have been even uglier.

KC had some hits on balls that from the camera angle were well off the plate but had just enough juice to make it into the OF. They did hit him hard on a lot of pitches. The biggest issue is his 4 seam fastball just isn't getting high enough in the zone to be working up and down like he's trying to do, it's getting like belt high and staying there.

I don't know if when he was with the Twins if he was more inside and out in the lower half of the zone or if he was able to work up in the zone before.

If you go back and look at video of some of his good starts in 2021, 2020, he doesn't really pitch up in the zone for whiffs.

Mostly you see slurves below the zone for strikeouts. Or fastballs for called or swinging strikes but kind of all over the place - inside, outside, sometimes missing his spots by a foot.

It just seems like his pitches have lost some "shape" or some type of nuance like that which is the difference between them being effective vs. consistently hittable.

Or, he is tipping pitches.

Boys - I was at OMHA's all weekend and am now in Vegas so I haven't been on the board in days. Safe to say it's been a complete s*** show in here? People jumping off buildings, burning jerseys?

Moreno is going to be sorely missed.

If our pitchers don't shape up and limit baserunners, we might get hurt a lot with the run game.

I mean, if it's a huge problem Kirk just DHs more often and Jansen gets the majority of the catching. No sweat.

Yeah, Kirk hasnt looked good anywhere on the field yet.

I'll give him some rope given his shortened spring training, but I'm not overly impressed with his lack of attention to his fitness. Looks like he did less than nothing in the offseason to improve in that area.

Assuming Jansen can stay healthy.

Mark Shapiro built a 7 billion dollar state of the art training facility just so Kirk, Vlad, and Berrios could hang out at home in Mexico etc. all offseason, get fat, and dye each other's hair.

It was worth him missing a chunk of spring so he could watch his wife crap out a child and be her emotional support animal while she breastfed. Those mammaries only happen once.
