Laika Community Moderator Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 Not a fan of that decision. He was fantastic all Spring. He didn’t even give up a run. He misses a ton of bats. He’s probably going to go somewhere and have a very good season. Literally don’t know what else he could have done. He was probably only here as injury insurance

Pearson to AAA is a head-scratcher… are they trying to stretch him out as a starter again?? Wasting bullets in AAA imo. If he’s healthy just use him while you can. White to the IL seems out of nowhere too

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 Pearson continues to dominate in AAA, he will be up soon.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 Pearson to AAA is confusing. Not really, gives them a month to evaluate the other assets, without options.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 Yeah and in that time, Pearson has another injury Then it didn't matter.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 The more I hear about the Pearson demotion, the more I disagree with the decision. Doesn't sound like he's going to be stretched out or anything. Just rotting on the vine.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Am I the only one who think Pop f***ing blows? He’s literally nothing. As long as Thornton doesn’t make the team. I actually feel Richards could bounce back and be effective because he actually misses bats. Problem is when he doesn’t.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Pop is Pearson with a sinker instead of a 4 seamer. That’s about it. I think Pearson can rack up K’s. He just hasn’t pitched for an extended period of time to form any consistently. He has dominant over powering stuff and has displayed it. Pop throws hard but hitters cover everything he throws.

Numbers last year were decent enough. Throws a high 90s sinker. He’s intriguing

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 FWIW Pop has better major league numbers than Pearson ever did. Pearson has barely pitched in the Majors. And Pop has given up more hits than IP and barely strikes anyone out. Hard to imagine him being anymore than a passable Middle Reliever who floats around the league for a handful of years.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Pop isn't bad, no criticism, just thought we needed a bit more length.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Trust the Jays FO. My thinking is they feel Pearson needs some more reps at a lower level, after hardly pitching the last few years, before the MLB pressure cooker. Everyone is aware of the stuff, but between the ears is just as, or more important. When they think he's had enough reps, he'll be up.
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Not really, gives them a month to evaluate the other assets, without options. Exactly. I think he and Pop deserve to make the team, but for the first time ever, the bullpen does not have a clear opening. Romano Garcia Swanson Bass Cimber Mayza Richards One of Pop or Pearson. I expected Pearson to be up in a month when one of Bass (seems to have lost 3 MPH in velocity at 35), Richards, or whoever else gets injured or start sucking.

Pop would give up more hits but mostly singles Pearson is the type to go K, K, walk, home run... when he sucks
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Toronto used what, 26 different relievers last year? Breaking camp doesn't matter a whole lot for a reliever who will be first in line anyway. He might not even be in Buffalo for two weeks.

If Richards is anything less than good he needs to go. Managing a bullpen with just one optionable slot is just too difficult over a long season.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Tercet is not smart. It’s clearly an options game and it happens with every single team in the league. I agree with Keggy that having a bunch of RP’s who are out of options makes it tough to shuffle around the pen. If Richards sucks hopefully they just cut their losses and open up that roster spot
