Idk. His whole life has been baseball from before he could hold a bat. It’s what he knows. It’s like NBA players, you’d think they’d get their money and thug out, but they love playing basketball. It’s what they know

I'm sorry get their money and "thug out". What does thug out mean?

Looking at the Jays entire 40 man roster, 10 are home grown.

Manoah, Vlad, Bo, Jansen and Kirk as starters, Romano, Mayza, Biggio, Lopez and Pearson for the bench and relievers.

Of that list, really only the first 5 would be anyone you'd worry about wanting to extend, and youd only do it with 1 catcher.

They must value flexibility over certainty.

Signing Jansen to a 5 year deal now plays into flexibility. Vazquez got 30M over 3 years as a 31 year old catcher. Hedges got 5M (WTF?). Jansen at 10M-12M per year would be a bargain. Teams would trade good assets to get him at that price.

How fast this thread moved from players being out of shape and unsustainable should they sign a long term contract to people being slightly worried that no long term deals have been signed.

Now is not the time to do extend them. Not with 13 year contracts being the norm. My bet is that the big spenders will have blown their loads and the market will have come down a bit before the key players test free agency.

What are you talking about?

Signing Jansen to a medium-term and affordable contract is smart.

Signing Fatty Vladdy to a long-term and expensive contract is stupid.

Signing Yips Bichette to a long-term and expensive contract is stupid.

It depends on the case.

Richard and jays settle at 1.5m.

We no longer have the ability to cut him b4 the season for 1/10 of his salary. That is only true for players who “file and trial”.

So I don’t expect another rp move (or sp for that matter) unless a pitcher is going another way in a trade.

I wasn't speaking to you personally when pointing that out...

Yeah, I think Manoah would be a candidate that they might sign to a deal that might buy out a year or 2 of free agency, it wouldn't be super expensive. Generally dont want to go nuts with pitchers and long term extensions while they are still under control early on.

Jansen, sure, but something similar or shorter to what AA just gave Murphy wouldn't be terrible.

Classy.

It’s simply a small subset of African Americans and doesn’t apply to all people with black skin. Don’t be so sensitive. Many of those NBA guys came up through challenging backgrounds and were exposed to the rap culture meaning of success and what you do when you get there

I think 80% of NFL players are bankrupt or in dire straights 2 years after retirement. 65% of NBA players within 5 years. Some is bad investments I’m sure but also living a certain lifestyle contributes to it.

Regardless, they still find the time and effort to play their respective sports. It’s what they love and what they know

I haven't dug into the numbers but I'm pretty sure Gausman got f***ed by the Jays offense as well as the defense. Seemed like they really struggled to score runs for the guy for some reason.

He was the #1 starter, and often enough the #1 lines up with the opposing team's #1, so it makes a certain amount of sense that the offence would be suppressed a bit when facing the other team's best pitcher... Obviously not ALWAYS the case, but can account for some of it.

I don't like the nose ring but I do like the psychotic serial killer vibes that our closer puts off.

That guys is nuts you can just tell and it's a perfect mentality for a closer.

Matches his prince albert.

He seems like a weird dude, but a septum piercing is pretty mainstream these days, at least in my circles. I don't have one (thought about it), but have my tongue and used to have my nipple done.

connorp gets a short timeout to think about why and how he was being racist

lol... he's going to cry, and send me messages now. INB4 I quit the forum, meltdown.

Septum for women seems more common these days. Less common to see it on men though

The only septum rings I’ve been around are in bulls and bull calves

I think it’s hideous but like Term I can dig the psycho vibes it gives off

I don't think this happens at all once opening day is over with.

No I don’t either. Didn’t Berrios get the ball on opening day anyway? Got absolutely shelled

Berrios had certainly the worst opening day start in Blue Jays history

He got one out and gave up 4 runs, right?
