I don't actually think I can handle a world where Harold Baines is in and Votto is kept out.

He should be a slam-dunk HoFer.

58.1 fWAR

Pretty much was one of the best overall hitters in the game last decade.

Should have re-worded the question asking if he gets in on the first ballot?

I think no. Not enough produkshun

He probably retires.

As much as I would love to see him sign with the Blue Jays for one-year as a DH/backup 1B for next season, I think he's stated numerous times he wants to finish his career in Cincy.

Does everyone on here thinks he makes the HoF?

McGriff finally getting in should open the door for Votto to get in. Votto has more WAR, a higher career wRC+ and won the NL MVP. He doesn't quite have the longevity of a McGriff, nor the counting stats, but I think we're finally moving past that a bit. He'll fall just shy of .300/.400/.500 (just missing on the .300 average side). He was one of the best hitters of his generation.

I would bet he doesn't make it in on the first ballot though (for reasons I think are really stupid).

I think voters also like when guys play their whole career in the same city. And there are zero character or PED red flags with Votto: he’s always been a great interview and media darling.

I wonder if the Nats just told Stras to retire instead of the whole dog and pony show. Save time for both sides. Just pay him anyway and be done with it

He's 35 and pitched 30 innings since 2020. Dude's done.

50/50 he gets in. A career 145 wRC+ and over .400 OBP. Staggering quality numbers. Issue will be did he need another 1-2 years production.

3 more career WAR than fellow Canadian Russ Martin who wont get a sniff unfortunately. Yet some around baseball like Sal Perez to go in with 16.

If he doesn't get in via ballot, I'm sure the "vetrins" committee will take care of him. Either way, I'm pretty sure he's getting in.

Yeah but 3 years and $100m on the table. What sane person walks from that? So Nats prob decided tell him just retire and they’ll still pay him

Stras is 35 now?? Jeez time flies

Yup, I'm turning 35 next week. No longer in my prime.

The Hurl has to be 60 now.

Astros got beat down bad

Good news:

All the WC spots are in play

Bad news:

Red Sox are playing pretty f'n well

Don't tell that to Grant!

It’s a medical retirement so he can retire and still get paid in full.

I think and hope he walks away. Everything seems to point in that direction:

- expiring contract

- consecutive lost seasons

- not close to any personal milestones that would be worth chasing

Would be nice to see the Reds get to the playoffs for him one last time

He's said he's not retiring though, IIRC.

Very likely and as Laika said they'll just buy him out on a agreed amount.

3 years seems like a long-time to make that determination. It’s not like Fielders degenerative spine thing, or whatever that was.

It does seem TOS spells doom for pitchers. Has anyone came back the same, or better, after TOS

I wouldn’t do a buyout. Would you? Maybe for like $95m out of $105m, I’d consider

That’s what a true playoff team looks like

With no protection, they have this guy Royce Lewis, who is still raking and went 3-3 with a hr, 2b, and a walk last night.

Never heard of him

It's severe nerve damage, meat.

Yes, but I’m sure science will catch up at some point. I’m sure they said same about TJ back in your day

You see Gelof went deep again? When we had 5hr I read a nerd article by some Tom Tango/Laila nerd type talking about underwhelming max EV and that it was highly unlikely he would hit 5 more hr all year. Whomp whomp

It apparently is just as bad as that if not worse. Apparently dude has chronic pain and can barely lift his daughter at times. That s*** ain’t worth it
