Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Harrison Bader has been placed on waivers too.
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Kind of surprised they waived Giolito. Gave up decent prospect capital for him and could've recouped some of that value if you QO'd him (although he hasn't been great with the Angels). Can't QO a player traded mid season
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 All 5 of the Angels guys and Bader should get picked up IMO. With the expanded rosters coming up I think the Jays would probably kick the tires on all of them but I'm not sure how many will fall to them. Cubs, D-Bags, Giants, Reds, Marlins and Red Sox are the teams ahead of the Jays that are still in contention that will be able to pick through those guys before the Jays get their chance.
infinitebook Verified Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 4d chess by Jays to fall behind in standings just in time for the Angels fire sale.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. There will be quite a few teams putting guys on waivers.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Surely someone ahead of the Jays will take Giolito. If not I'd take him just to block the pitching starved Rangers from getting him. Assuming Gio is gone, If I'm the Jays I am claiming one of Moore or Lopez. Chad Green can come up for the additional roster spot and Moore or Lopez can replace Francis who can be optioned. Could be a marginal upgrade and a good block. As for the hitters, Renfroe and Bader would be good pickups. Could platoon with Belt/Varsho/KK in some sort of capacity as the additional roster guy. Grichuk kind of sucks I'd pass on him.

DonJays Verified Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Really doubt any of these players fall to Toronto anyway. At least a few will fall to the jays. There are only a couple teams behind the jays with a reasonable shot at the playoffs. Mostly small market teams as well so they may not want the financial commitments
infinitebook Verified Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 White Sox should claim Giolito just for the memes, basically lending him for a month in exchange for a top 100 prospect

hanton Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 how the hell is Giolito on waivers LOL

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 I think the Jays should definitely claim one of those BP arms. Moore or Lopez would be great fits. Also certain they could easily claim one of those bats - Bader, Grichuk, Renfroe - as well. We'll see who else is put on waivers. Teams with lower winning percentages who could be active claiming guys: Twins, Red Sox, Giants, Reds, Marlins and maybe the Padres.

Lopez and Moore would also be lovely.

hanton Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 Remeber how Vlady destroyed Betts in the homerun derby, Mookie hit his 37th home run yesterday, that's a career high for him

What a season. Someone teach Vlad how to pull the ball in the air
