Are you allowed to change hands during the inning? I’m guessing they wouldnt allow a glove on the field, so you’d have to stop the game each time you wanted to change hands.

This is a good read. Would be really frustrating for an informed player like Thompson to hear the team win with arguments he knows the team knows aren’t valid, but will sway the arbitrators. Same thing happened with Milwaukee arguing that Burnes contributed to them missing the playoffs last year.

After over 150 years of baseball, kind of surprised that this switch pitcher thing is just now getting traction. Babe Ruth was a natural righty but decided to do everything baseball related lefty. Now imagine a switch hitting, switch pitching outfielder like Ruth. He'd have just made a mockery of the game. I get hitting only from the opposite side because that kind of makes sense in baseball. Plus it's sort of like a slapshot and a lot of people shoot from their weak side in hockey. But I really don't get only throwing from your weak side, barring an injury. If your weak hand is strong enough to pitch competitively in baseball, you should be even better from your strong side and might as well use both.

Yeah, just one of those things. I never threw hard and played 2nd in hs. Even when I got strong and lifted, just couldn’t throw hard. All built and muscular, my 11yo skinny son was literally throwing harder

It's the finesse part of it.

 

Switch hitting doesn't necessitate using much finesse from either side of the plate. Even if you are a plus hitter from both sides who can, say, serve specific pitches into the opposite field at will... the finesse required pales in comparison to the specialization and feel needed to consistently execute offspeed pitches or hit your spots.

 

I think the only way to make it work and train each arm adequately would be to basically double your throwing time. Like if a normal P throws 7 hours per week, you need to throw 7 hours per week on each arm.

 

It would be funny to sign your switch pitching kid up for two travel ball teams and make him a RHP on one and a LHP on the other.

I thought this was pretty interesting. I think most would assume that TB has had a lot more success over the years than Arizona (based on recency bias as Arizona obviously had a lot more success early on). I think Arizona's success has been a lot more up and down, but in the end, they've had similar success. Arizona is certainly on the rise again.

I would render a guess that out of people who consider themselves "baseball fans" - I mean people who feel as though they follow baseball, less than 2% would not be familiar with Pat Venditte, his custom glove the the rules surrounding how he pitched. I mean - he pitched for the Jays...
