That makes three MLB GMs now to come out of the Blue Jays/ Braves AA pipeline.

And a perfect place for him to go to, an org that already values internal development, blends scouting and analytics near perfectly, and is always ahead of the curve.

Orioles get: LHP Cole Irvin and RHP Kyle Virbitsky

A's get: IF Darell Hernaiz

Orioles are so dumb. Coming off a season where they took a major leap forward, and instead of signing some legit pitchers they're like nah - here's Kyle Gibson and Cole Irvin instead. Basically wasting a pre-arb year of Gunnar and Adley. Even if you do believe Grayson Rodriguez to be immediately good or Kyle Bradish to improve, that's even more incentive to go out and get a good pitcher or two since you'd theoretically be closer to playoff contention.

Happy that a division rival hasn't improved, but would be furious if I was an O's fan.

Irvin going to give Kyle Gibson some competition for Opening Day starter.

Sad commentary on their starting rotation

They have Means coming back from the IL eventually, Bradish, Greyson R, DL Hall and others enroute. I’m afraid they will be a big pain in our ass before long.

Tatis?

Tim Anderson is maybe not even top 15

Posted
Trent Grisham? I'm sure he maintains 2b/SS/CF/OF status, I've heard he's a super utility option that plays everyday.

Bogey is their SS. Tatis will play in the OF.. Might end up being LF/RF instead of CF or a mix, but not much talk about Tatis playing IF.

I've read it, as I own the dude, he'll still play MIF to rest guys.

If the League has been investigating Clevinger since last summer, why the hell would they let him sign a contract with the WS. I mean, were they at least told? This article has all kinds of cray cray in this... 2 women and mothers of his children... he seems f***ed at this point.

Way worse than Bauer optically at this point. Bauer was never charged or found guilty.

And he hasn't been put under leave by the MLB... IDK anymore???

I didn't read anything about a police investigation. In the case of Bauer, there was. SOP for employees under police investigation to go on administrative leave.

Not yet she filed, but what does that have to do with what I said, how can the league let that signing happen without interfering?

Chicago White Sox pitcher Mike Clevinger is under investigation by Major League Baseball following allegations of domestic violence involving the mother of his 10-month-old daughter and child abuse.

Olivia Finestead, the 24-year-old mother of Clevinger’s child, told The Athletic on Tuesday that she has been in contact with individuals from MLB’s Department of Investigations since this summer. According to Finestead, she has detailed to those investigators incidents of physical, verbal and emotional abuse, including an incident from last June in which Finestead said Clevinger choked her, and another about two weeks later when she said Clevinger slapped her in a hotel room when the team was playing the Dodgers and threw used chewing tobacco on their child.

A source familiar with MLB’s investigation process confirmed there is an open investigation on Clevinger. The source added that the White Sox became aware of the allegations after he was signed.

Finestead, who agreed to be named in this story, first publicly disclosed the allegations in an Instagram story early Tuesday.

“I hope the @MLB does what they should and puts him in required therapy maybe even a small suspensions (sic) so he can take time out to really think about why he abuses his kids and their mothers,” the story post said.

Clevinger “emphatically denies” the allegations, his lawyers said in a statement Tuesday evening.

“He has never harmed Ms. Finestead or his daughter,” the statement said. “We will not comment on Ms. Finestead’s motive for bringing these false allegations. Her baseless threats and accusations over the last few months have regrettably escalated, culminating most recently in deeply disturbing threats toward Mike and Mike’s family. Her threats and her pattern of abusive behavior are well documented. The simple truth is that Mike has done nothing wrong.”

Clevinger, 32, was a member of the San Diego Padres pitching staff at the time of the alleged incidents last summer. He became a free agent when his contract expired this winter and signed a one-year deal with the White Sox.

The White Sox said they were not aware of these allegations when they signed Clevinger.

“Major League Baseball and the Chicago White Sox take any and all allegations very seriously, and the White Sox are completely supportive of the Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse policy shared by MLB and the MLBPA,” the team said in a statement issued to The Athletic. “MLB opened an investigation after learning of these allegations. The White Sox were not aware of the allegations or the investigation at the time of his signing. The White Sox will refrain from comment until MLB’s investigative process has reached its conclusion.”

The Padres said in a statement they are “aware of MLB’s investigation and completely support their efforts under the Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse policy. Due to the ongoing investigative process, we cannot comment any further at this time.”

You had two questions. I responded to one.

Who knows what the WS knew when they signed him. Maybe they knew, and are simply relying on standard Contract clauses for these things, and maybe the lawyers cooked up some additional non-standard clauses in this case.

Pretty tricky to directly interfere with contractual negotiations when you are simply investigating something

Seems like it’s the same situation as Bauer. In terms of its all allegations, where based on the lawyers comments, there may have been a clear ulterior motive that comes to light. So same exact murky situation with same people taking same sides. When I commented before, I was thinking there were charges coming. Just read the details yesterday

Yes, but “interfering” could just mean making teams aware. I’m not sure Spanky meant stopping any deal

I’m not sure they have to keep an investigation secret.

I do know their own teams know, so I assume other teams would know. I just know I’ve read about drug suspensions that were going on behind the scenes where the team and player knew what was going on, but not the public

Rays Sign Pete Fairbanks To Extension

January 27th, 2023 at 2:40pm CST • By Steve Adams

The Rays announced Friday afternoon they’ve signed reliever Pete Fairbanks to a three-year extension with a 2026 club option. The deal buys out his three remaining seasons of arbitration eligibility, while the club option covers what would’ve been his first free-agent season.

Fairbanks, a client of Republik Sports, is reportedly guaranteed $12MM over the next three seasons (including a $1MM buyout on the 2026 option). Fairbanks will be paid $3.666MM annually between 2023-25, while the option comes with a $7MM base value. The deal also contains various incentives and escalators that could max it out at $24.6MM over four seasons.

and from all reports two of most likeable but useless baseball people.

Dana Brown was the genius behind December 2012. Completely surprised that this is the guy that ends up in Houston. Might be the best news for baseball. He absolutely hated "the computer guys" when he was here.

This is what I was saying, like how can they not be told he's under investigation, regardless of the legal jargon that just seems ridiculous to me.
