wilko Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 It should get better. He's still pretty young. Players often have down years in their career for a variety of reasons. Randomness (my new favorite word) can play a factor, some sort of nagging injury, maybe he was getting exploited on something that he can fix, etc. Unfortunately he doesn't look like the Hall of Famer that we were all hoping for but he can still be an All-Star caliber player (a real one not a fake one like he was this year) moving forward. Like this guy.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2023 Author Posted October 13, 2023 Like this guy. Yeah he's probably starting on the all-time Fake All-Star team.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 There is no guarantee he bounces back but I think it's a good bet to think that he will. I'm sure he knows 26 homers isn't a good year for him. How much he bounces back we shall see. Doubtful to reach 2021 but 2022 should be attainable. I'm hoping for somewhere in between. Yeah keeping expectations realistic, something closer to 2022 should be attainable for Vlad. Hoping somewhere in between 2021 and 2022 would be ideal. If he be a 3-4 WAR player in 2024, that would go a long way in helping this lineup and team.

He’s going to make near 20m, he HAS to be a 3 WAR player. The question is, will he get back to 4+ WAR player to make whatever long term deal he’s looking for worth it. I think he’s a full time DH and would trade him in before he signs whatever deal that will most likely overpay him. I just don’t trust his body type to age well since he’s all bat at a very replaceable position.

Makes the Jays a better team and as well increases his trade value in case you need to move him before he becomes a FA. I wouldn't sign Vlad to a long term deal, same with Bo right now. It's too late in the game and would let them both play out 2024 here. If things are the same again in 2024 where the Jays are a borderline WC team, I think serious conversations have to be had about moving one or both of them, instead of losing them for nothing.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 Just did a refresher on mlb FA. 1st site I saw had Chapman ranked as #3 FA. Woof
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 Like this guy. This guy need's to be DFA'd and never thought of again.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 This guy need's to be DFA'd and never thought of again. I'll be surprised if he's on the team next spring, but then i said the same thing a year ago
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 This guy need's to be DFA'd and never thought of again. Espinal was one of the Jays best bats down the stretch, was an All-Star and posted a 2.3 WAR in 2022!
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 Espinal was one of the Jays best bats down the stretch, was an All-Star and posted a 2.3 WAR in 2022! But then it’s like, remember in 2014 when Biggio was really good. He needs to get all the ABs he can to get back to that
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 Espinal was one of the Jays best bats down the stretch, was an All-Star and posted a 2.3 WAR in 2022! Sarcasm noted. Espinal is in idiot. Had a perfectly good career path going as a versatile glove first no power but good contact and walks hitter. The perfect backup IF that could play on any team in the league for a long time. The he got delusions of becoming a power hitter and f***ed up his body to the point where now his useful skills have diminished and power still isn't there. .now he's the easiest non tender on the roster.

Yes he was so good that even though we saw under performance this season from Vlad, Kirk, Chappy and Springer we did not need to add lumber at the deadline. Who needs a bat for lefties et al when you have an undeniable masher like Espy - 2022 ALL STAR around.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
