Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 You can absolutely score 3 runs on luck. I just literally saw it today. They scored 10 runs. To score three runs someone is getting on base X2 or x3 and someone is driving those runs in. If it is errors it is D, bad routes, misreads, miscommunication in the OF etc, it is D. If they are making contact enough to find holes to get 3 runs it is on the pitchers. We lost because our run prevention sucked after a certain point in the game and no way I am blaming 1O runs on luck, the ump or even the manager. It takes a team effort to allow 10 runs.

Luck can play a massive role in one game of baseball and we had much worse luck today. Thats just baseball. It’s not ALL luck but we definitely were unlucky today. If we get in again next year and go deep we will absolutely have games where we get the lion’s share of the luck. We also didnt lose by 10 runs. We lost by one. The whole make your own luck, and its all on us, is just manager speak.

Dagagad Verified Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 There is no such thing as absolutes in sports. This is absurd. I cant remember any deep playoff run in baseball where one team didnt have games where they had much more than the other team. In ten regular season games, there are usually a couple that stand out. Baseball is a very random sport. Theoretically, we could go deep and always just win games clearly because we are better. Its just super unlikely. You can change absolutely to almost certainly in your mind if it makes you feel better.

Luck can def play a role in a game, multiple times. However, this wasn’t a 15 inning game where a team scored a run on luck or a 1-0 game. We lost by one run, but we were up 8-1 and allowed 10 runs. That has nothing to do with just luck.

I dont agree that luck can only be a major factor in low scoring games.

Ok but do you acknowledge that 3 of those runs were scored on an extremely lucky hit? Could have been 9-7
MON4NHLTOR4MLB Verified Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 At the end of the day, it’s what everyone here and everywhere said at the beginning of the year, AND what’s screwed us every post season. s*** bullpen. Spend that extra 10-20 mill and you may win a World Series but bargain bin pitchers never work out
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Ok but do you acknowledge that 3 of those runs were scored on an extremely lucky hit? Could have been 9-7 Excuses is for losers. Jays could’ve taken on Iglesias’ salary and maybe it’s a different result. Or moved Moreno and whatever else for Castillo. They played it safe. Now they’re going home. That’s another way to look at it. Paying $$ for a RP may not be the nest way to spend money, but when you are a legit team built to go deep in the post-season, getting these 3rd rate 6th Inning shutdown guys just wasn’t the way to go

The Iceman Verified Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 I had two questions in defeat. Pitchers had a bad day no doubt but all year late inning and with the lead the manager trots out a new CF, why not Jackie Bradley last night. Would he have caught the bloop. BUT If not, if the CF plays what was an uncatchable ball for Springer on the hop do all 3 runs score? Or is it a 2 run bloop?
Jaysareus Verified Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Zimmer would have had that blooper no problem.

JBJ probably catches it He also probably catches both the balls Tapia missed And yeah I think if Springer plays it on a hop it's a 2 run bloop.

They blew it AND luck was a factor. Not hard to see. Blowing it events: - Tapia - Bass - Mayza - Romano - Schneider - Bo? - certain hitters choked Bad luck: - the bloop collision - Merrifield injury - Springer hand injury yesterday, obviously ruined him probably some other cheap hits on their end but I don't really remember I mean they MOSTLY blew it I guess but the bad luck tipped the ship
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 The center fielder needs to call the ball and the IF or another OF needs to break off. Miscommunication by OF and IF cost us badly in the ALCS game 6, yesterday and I also recall a game in 2015/2016 where Pillar and someone collided. Collisions happen, but most of the time it is due to someone not taking charge and calling off or another player disregarding. I don’t buy the “luck” thing on the bloop hit. Someone already pointed out Springer covers more ground then where the ball landed. Springer broke off due to seeing Bo coming out. The little bloop that Donaldson got to tie it in the 7th inning game 5, 2015. Odor was not playing where he should have been on D and it went just over his head. Looked like luck, but was enabled by Odor playing too far in then he normally does, should. Then on the other side, the offensive team needs to make contact and hit a ball in the first place to make it a bloop etc instead of a K or IF fly etc. Look at all the luck we had on easy outs or double play balks in 2015 and the 2016 wildcard game. Russel Martin hit a ground ball out and a double play ball in 2016 WC, both were botched. But.. he made contact and put the ball in play..
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Seattle will be heading home after they lose to Houston. Blue Jays fans said the same thing before this series and look what happened. Its Postseason baseball. Mariners likely will make a series of it IMO.
NHLPRO Verified Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 LOL Celebrating like they won the world series for clinching a wild card and they did not even win the Division and then lose 2 in a row hahahaha deserves them right.:(:(:(

They really need an old school manager who won't tolerate that clowning around and BS. If I'm Schneider or a new manager who walks into that clubhouse Day One of Spring Training, I grab that Home Run jacket and burn it in front of the entire team. Send a message!

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Lol. Vladdy is more focused on getting the home run jacket than doing a jack s*** in the field. Clearly. We’ll point to his 16 HR decline from last season as evidence of this new focus on HRs.

PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Telling… is the word… of no comment from Atkins or Shapiro as of yet! Bottom line, both don’t know what to say at this point in time they are super bummed as well! I suspect knowing what has transpired the only way the GM can recover is wholesale changes. I do not see any extensions on the horizon for Bo or Vlad both have to take their game to the next level to ensure big contracts and I support management if they hold off. Bo has to improve defence and baseball in-game mindset or time and time again it will cost games and Vlad needs to improve plate discipline and pitch selection to justify the contract he thinks he is worth. The Jays have 2 years left of solid contention and I think a left handed bat is a must with a slugger type hitter, sign Verlander to a 3 year $120 million contract (I’m not sure if he is a FA though can’t recall), bring in two relief pitchers with in-game strikeout ability (proven Experience). Other changes for sure I do agree the dugout ******** of joking around comes at a price of first being the best in your division or winning a god dam World Series then you can strut your stuff the year after. The dugout and professionalism has gotten out of hand for 3 years now and needs to be reigned in for professional seriousness. Yanks are proven winners yet they do not get on with that s*** the Jays players do in the dugout!

Neither Bo or Springer 'knew' they could get to that ball and thus neither were in a position to catch it. Also hard to catch it when you're going all out like that. Nobody did anything wrong on that play. It was just VERY unfortunate. You must not play baseball.
BuckHenry Verified Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 I think my brain is trying to repress the events of yesterdays game …. But in the bottom half of the ninth we had 2 out and 1 on with Tapia coming to the plate …. wouldn’t it have made sense to PH Biggio in that situation… ya , he’s not much for average but he has power to put one out and win the game …. Any thoughts ?
