Tapia is 7 for 11AB, 1D, 1T, 1HR against Luis Castillo career wise.

 

Utterly meaningless sample size. I would be willing to bet a fairly decent amount (if i could afford to...) that Tapia will be basically useless in this series.

Probably would have put Whit in left and Espinal at 2b. Would be better defensively in both places and Espay can handle lefties pretty well. He might not be 100% though. And yes, I would not be carrying Tapia for this series. I would be running Merrifield in the outfield, Epsy at 2nd and keep JBJ and Zimmer for defense and pinch running. We know we're facing Castillo and Ray in games 1 and 2 so putting Tapia anywhere near them is about as certain a strikeout as there is, and why bother keeping him around for game 3 if needed.

 

Yeah I am wondering if Espinal is just borderline in terms of health so they want him on here as a defensive replacement / backup but he's not going to start a game.

 

He's the only viable backup SS after all.

Yeah I am wondering if Espinal is just borderline in terms of health so they want him on here as a defensive replacement / backup but he's not going to start a game.

They probably think JBJ with his experience is a better option than Zimmer.

 

Will be interesting to see the Jays lineup for this afternoon. I hope Kirk and Jansen are both in it as C/DH. For LF, Merrifield would be ideal but that means Biggio or Espinal at 2B.

 

What are the chances we see Gabby Moreno playing LF in this series?

It's too bad they never gave him any more reps out in LF during the last couple of weeks in the season.

 

I think if they start Kirk behind the plate and DH Jansen (visa versa), they prefer Moreno on the bench.

1 GDT for each Jays game

1 GDT for all the other series combined into one

Zimmer sucks, but he could actually be useful in the playoffs as a pinch runner/defensive replacement. Although I completely understand if they feel JBJ does the same thing and didn't want to duplicate bench players with the same role. Vetrin presents in this case might be a good thing. Wouldn't surprise me if Kooch is used against a tough lefty if Mayza is unavailable for whatever reason, but he's been too inconsistent to trust in a big spot like that, so best case is he is not needed.

 

What will be interesting is how they handle the lineup against Robbie Ray. If Espinal is not starting in that game (with Merrifield in LF), when he has huge R/L splits, then he's probably not healthy.

 

Also glad that Jansen is at DH. Right call and should be the norm in the playoffs with him and Kirk. Whoever isn't catching should be the DH.
