L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 (edited) The Gibby Show debuts tomorrow. Available on all major podcast platforms. I wonder how long until the Ted Lilly episode airs? Edited September 22, 2022 by L54
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 I'm about halfway through right now. It's pretty good so far. Donaldson is actually a pretty good interview. You can tell he doesn't really like the Yankees or their fans a whole lot. I'd almost say he considers himself a Toronto Blue Jay.

I never understood why someone would want to play for the Yanks. Their weird outdated clubhouse rules and their insufferable fanbase.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 Lol funny Donaldson quote: "You're lucky Tulo stepped in because this wasn't going to be a Ted Lilly situation. I was going to whoop your ass."
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 If Chapman leaves as a FA, wouldn't mind seeing the Jays bring back Josh Donaldson especially if his D is still there!

Their weird outdated clubhouse rules and their insufferable fanbase. I agree. Yankees can always open up the cheque book which definitely helps and why some players choose to play there. Also, think it has more to do with the legacy players want to have after putting on those Pinstripes. Some players after they retire want to be remembered playing in the Bronx, winning and being associated with the all-time Yankees greats. The big market as well plays a role if someone likes the spotlight and for endorsements etc. The Yankees brand doesn't just apply to New York - it applies to pretty much all over the globe. If I was a player, the Yankees wouldn't even be near my first choice for the reasons you stated. Wouldn't want to shave my beard haha. Obviously, if they offered me the most, I would sign with them. Though money aside, would prefer playing for many other MLB organizations over the Yankees if I were a MLB player or pitcher.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 Thoroughly enjoyed that, my favourite part was when JD brought up a great point about Gibbons, was the team had his back as they knew he had there's that's really missing in todays game, good point Josh. Loved that about Gibby.

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 If Chapman leaves as a FA, wouldn't mind seeing the Jays bring back Josh Donaldson especially if his D is still there! You may as well throw a hand grenade in the clubhouse. Same effect. And I like JD.

He'd be 38 by then, his stick already showing pretty clear signs of age related decline relative to his former self. .

He's not my first choice obviously, though if nobody else better was available, I would take a flier on him especially if his D is still solid. I don't think he's completely finished with the bat.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 I thoroughly enjoyed the Gibby Show. JD is a superb interview and I miss him.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 Going to listen in car on the way home today. I have tried not to read any of these posts past #1 so I have something to look forward to…

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 Great start! I could listen to JD and Gibbons interaction stories all day long. Confirmed to me also that Dickey was an AA choice in key games and probably not Gibbons.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 (edited) I'd take him as a hitting coach though... He's be great, I love listening to him talk hitting, that episode on MLB Central where he and Dero talk hitting was fantastic. Found it... definitely recommend everyone have a watch, I love this s***, but he's no LTBF ... LMAO... Dero - "Oh man, where were you 15 years ago?" Edited September 23, 2022 by Spanky99
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 Gibby's next guest... The Big Man, Alex... lmao

There’s another one like this with Arod, Frank Thomas and Pete Rose where Pete was giving them hitting tips and both guys were mindblown. Love watching these types of vids. Here it is:
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 This one is gonna be good.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 Hahaha... Joey Bats, cool.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2022 Posted October 3, 2022 Sportsnet should hire Gibby in some sort of capacity. If this is Buck's last season, would love to see Gibby in the broadcast booth with Dan Shulman.
polar bear Verified Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 If Chapman leaves as a FA, wouldn't mind seeing the Jays bring back Josh Donaldson especially if his D is still there! As good as it was,JDÂ’s defense was never as good as Chapmans.
