BCZ Verified Member Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Hypothetically speaking (and assuming the Jays are out of the division and the O's are out *knock on wood*) which matchup do you want? Out of all permutations I think these are the only ones that might be debatable. This also assumes Guardians, Twins, and White Sox are out of the WC race but still in on their division. Reminder of the format: WC#1 hosts WC#2 and Div#3 hosts WC#3 in a best of three game series. Personally I'd like to see the Jays kick the Rays' asses at the Rogers Centre.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 A matchup against the AL Central wouldn't be bad but I don't think we can really plan on that. I think we just need to keep winning and go for the #1 WC spot. If we win enough the division could even be in play.
mellowgold Verified Member Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 None of the central teams scare me whatsoever but playing any of them would likely mean playing three on the road. I don't have a ton of confidence in our offense against Seattle's top three starters. So gimme the Rays at home I guess. Just NOT at the Trop.

The Rays are so annoying, and they play to their strengths perfectly. I do like the home field advantage the COVID border laws give us though. I think the Mariners are probably the best scenario.

Mariners feels like the better odds but Rays would almost certainly be more entertaining.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 This reeks of counting chickens ….but I’d rather play Cleveland. They do not scare me at all.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Toronto vs New York would be great if the Rays managed to win the division somehow. It would be so so sweet to knock out the Yanks in the first round. Toronto vs Seattle would be fun, hard to hate on the Mariners. Would be a fun series whether it was in Toronto or in Seattle. Other than those matchups, I’d prefer to play the central team. Chisox/Cleveland/Twins would probably be the easiest matchup available in the WC round. Worst matchup would be the Rays IMO and I really don’t want to see that one
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Current Rays starting rotation is Corey Kluber, Luis Patino, Drew Rasmussen, Jeffrey Springs, and ? Why should we be scared of the Rays

Why should we be scared of the Rays Last time I checked, Rays have been a better team up to this point. And yeah, because they're the Rays!
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 The thing is, if we are playing the central division first round it means we finished 3rd in the WC race and probably limped into the playoffs, I think first place WC vs Tampa or Seattle is the best result.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Easily the Mariners. Would be such a fun series and I wouldn’t even be mad if the Jays lost. Losing to Tampa again would be infuriating
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 I voted vs Mariners with the Jays at home. Would be a really fun series plus I think the Toronto fans would actually give Robbie Ray a standing ovation before he started. Would really show how much Toronto fans get behind their players. I think that will make signing Judge in the offseason easier.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Because its the Rays. As long as this is the attitude, the Rays are going to give trouble. Time to expunge this bias out of our heads

glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Either WC1 or WC3. No thanks on WC2.

BlueJays Verified Member Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Mariners, probably. If the series is in Toronto, no anti-vaxx Ray on their roster.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Because its the Rays. Honestly, if you gave me the choice of WC1 while hosting the Rays or WC3 while facing the AL Central winner on the road, I'd probably pick the latter. Easier opponent, plus DS matchup if they advanced would be the freefalling Yankees instead of the Astros. I mean, I'm not going to complain with WC1 and homefield, but if it's the Rays, then I want no part of it. Home, road, it doesn't matter.
