Jays333 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Cards missing their two best players lol. Pitching outside of Manoah and Stripling shaky as f*** for us
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Wainwright and Pujols kicking our ass.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Author Posted July 28, 2022 Cards missing their two best players lol Astros got swept by the As. Baseball happens. Besides their ace is pitching like an ace.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Curious about what kind of shitballing shitbags Atkins is targeting to "fix" the bullpen
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Author Posted July 28, 2022 That outside strike call against us is tragic. lol
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Vintage Waino and unfortunately not a good pitching performance by Gausman. Bringing Richards into situations with multiple base runners is probably not ideal moving forward.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Author Posted July 28, 2022 Ya Banda is getting DFA'd - can't be this inconsistent every time you're out
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Author Posted July 28, 2022 Ah well; get em tomorrow. 8 - 2 in the last 10.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Wow. That was a pretty dominant appearance. Seems like the Jays bullpen is low 90’s to mid 90’s. And everyone elses is mid 90’s to high 90’s. I can think of one guy in the last decade who hit 100 MPH. The Cardinals had 4 in 2 games.

The Cards have Junior Fernandez and Jordan Hicks who routinely throw 100 but are f***ing awful, so I mean it's not like that's all there is to it.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Bringing in Richards with multiple runners on is the first legitimate gripe I've had with Schneider since he took over. That's pretty decent all things considered.

I was talking consistently but yea you’re not wrong. I just feel the velo needs to crank up. Obviously missing bats is most important.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 If we're talking about the last decade, can't forget 100 miles Giles Yup he was dominant the one year he was healthy
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Jays got Waino'd bring on the Tigers! Lets Go!!!
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 When Adam Wainwright is getting calls three inches off the plate... Game over lol

Obviously missing bats is most important. I distinctly remember Merryweather having a lights out performance at Yankee Stadium in 2021 where he struck out the side and made Gary Sanchez and Gleyber Torres look silly pumping 100 past them with a disgusting bugs bunny changeup.

Bringing Richards into situations with multiple base runners is probably not ideal moving forward. I'm still not seeing what Richard's has done with any consistency to earn that spot over Gausman against Pujols whose bat has slowed. Rather have Yimi in early for that big move with men on. Anyway. We only scored 1 run so it's all kind of moot.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 I distinctly remember Merryweather having a lights out performance at Yankee Stadium in 2021 where he struck out the side and made Gary Sanchez and Gleyber Torres look silly pumping 100 past them with a disgusting bugs bunny changeup. I don't think we are going to see that version of Merryweather again. Merryweather, along with most of the Jays top bullpen members, experienced a very pronounced increase in spin rates at the start of the 2021 season. I don't think it's a coincidence that this is the same time when Tyler Chatwood was a member of the Jays pen. Merryweather hasn't been able to recreate that type of dominance at any point since the sticky stuff crackdown occurred.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 It was 3-1 in the 5th before Richards gave up a 3 run HR.. That is why middle relief is important and we need to upgrade there also.. Wainright might not go 7 if still 3-1. The Jays at home and with their offense can 100% surpass a 2 run deficit... We didn't lose the game due to Wanright, we lost it because our pen was not able to keep it close and make everyone of those late inning ABs pressure packed and the manager worried about who's on deck and if such and such gets on if the tying run comes to the plate. That is why some teams are bringing in set up types in early inning situations like that... Those moments in mid innings can have a great impact on the game tratectory. We should NOT ignore our middle and long relief as part of our goal of overall team improvment. It is not about just a holds guy or a closer etc... Those moment in the 5th inning are just as important especially with our offensive abilities..

You can't assume that the Jays would have scored more runs if Richards was able to prevent the Cardinals from scoring in the 5th inning, that's completely devoid of logic. Acquiring leverage relievers also serves to push the existing bullpen members down the ladder as well. If you have a few more reliable late innings options that opens the door for guys like Phelps, Cimber, Mayza etc. to pitch earlier in the game in situations like last night's 5th inning. The team doesn't need to acquire more middle relief options as they already have plenty of pitchers that are perfectly capable of pitching at that point of the game.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Just a weird decision by the new skipper to use Richards. Cimber and Garcia were both available. Phelps and Mayza too, they only threw 3 and 6 pitches the day prior. So with Romano, Cimber, Garcia, Phelps, and Mayza all usable why use Richards in the 5th inning of a close game in a high leverage spot? Makes no sense. Even pulling Gausman is a questionable move. It was Albert Pujols. Yeah Guasman wasn't on his A game but it's Albert Pujols vs. Kevin Gausman. It should not matter at all that Pujols managed to poke a couple of hits off him earlier in the game. So this is decision #2 that was bad by John S. First one being when he used Banda in that one run game.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
