Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Going to need someone from the high performance team to test John Schneider's testosterone levels STAT Displaying very LOW ENERGY here
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 judging people based on what they say to the media...is a joke.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 While watching John Schneider's post game comments last night I couldn't get my head around the laissez-faire attitude toward the whole situation. I don't know if he feels like he has to remain ultra calm as the skipper but I would much rather have seen a hint of emotion. Get mad you *******s. Show me something. Instead we get the same stay the course answers which is pablum for the masses. If Bats or Donaldson were on this team no way they would have turtled in this situation and said nothing. Someone needs to call out everyone but no one seems to have the gonads to do it. Depressing really.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Wait a minute I wonder if Jose Bautista wants to manage?
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Wait a minute I wonder if Jose Bautista wants to manage? I’ll take him as manager if he just agrees to teach our guys to pull the baseball again. Actually you know what, bring Cito back

We forget we don't know what goes on behind closed doors though. The JD *this isn't the try league, it's the get it done league* to the media was epic.

It's almost like getting mad and showing frustration in front of a reporter doesn't actually solve or do anything. We have no idea if those conversations are happening behind closed doors (or whether they have any impact on results either way).

JFD Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Wait a minute I wonder if Jose Bautista wants to manage? He doesn't want to travel but said he'd be open to a remote consulting type of job
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Cito's like 90... He's like 6 months older than Tony LaRussa. 79.

Media narratives about how to get into players heads to get them to actually perform. It’s all mice nuts. The team has real some real issues to address. Wait for Ross’s next press conference for pablum. “Trust the process” “We like our batted ball numbers and feel confident it will normalize” “Our run prevention is trending well”. I’m sure Olerud could do a whole bit on it.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Cito's like 90... He still has it.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Would hire Bautista as a hitting coach and have him work his way towards being a manager down the road. I think he would make a great manager. Even Russell Martin down the road as well.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Just bring back Gibby. He's the perfect blend of a player's manager but he's not a pushover either. He knows enough about analytics but not too much to where he completely disregards the hot hand theory, i.e. pitching Richards who is struggling in a tight game last night.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 I wonder how the team would respond if they fired JS today and flew Gibby in to manage right away

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Hard pass on Gibby for me. If winning and luck ever unrealistically created revisionist performance views on anyone formerly with the Jays, 15/16 did for Gibby. Thank you Elvis Andrus.

If winning and luck ever unrealistically created revisionist performance views on anyone formerly with the Jays, 15/16 did for Gibby. Thank you Elvis Andrus. People forget how poorly he managed that ALCS game 4 against KC. Jays were down 5-2 and he put in LaTroy Hawkins (6th inning I think) who was struggling big time near the end of the season. Proceeds to blow the game wide open, leading to Pennington pitching and allowing KC to rest the Davis/Holland combo and putting the Jays down 3-1 in the series. Jays had a chance to come back still, and if they had then evening the series 2-2 is a major difference from being down 3-1. Pretty much the same scenario you guys are complaining about with Richards except in the playoffs. And Schneider had guys like Garcia and Romano well-rested in the pen. Season on the line. Embarrassing.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Mods LOL. Seeing if I could stir up the Gibby group hug. I’ll give him this. He didn’t sit the best reliever in the game in the 2016 wildcard game. A little more luck from Buck.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Dusty Baker does pretty well for the Astros and he's hardly a good in-game strategist

Embarrassing. Gibby put on a dumb ass sac bunt with 2 on GM 5 vs Texas. Bunted Right to third. They had wheel play on. Andrus dropped easy out on force at third throw from Beltre. Pure luck for us. Bad call. Would have changed whole outcome. Anyway the over use of Ezekiel. You could go on. But just time to move on IMO.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Dusty Baker does pretty well for the Astros and he's hardly a good in-game strategist He won a ring with the best talent in baseball playing for him. Props to him. Players seem to like and respect him. Same for Cito. He won 2 rings benching Olerud for Carter. I wouldn’t say he a great manager either.

Dusty's a raw raw baseball old school puppet, everything is relayed in his ear from the 'Stros BC and analytics, they always have. Same thing goes on here with JS.

Analytics win 100+ with those teams.
