Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 I still can't wrap my head around being so inept that you have to trade a future HoFer at 23 years old. They extended the wrong guy (Strasburg) and Corbin became a pumpkin.
BlueJaysFever Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Alright now that Soto distraction is complete let’s make some deals Ross.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 I know Atkins and Shapiro talk about a sustainable winning team each year but making playoffs every year and not going for it at some point just means they are more about job security then rolling the dice. Give credit to Alex A he had balls in Toronto and Atlanta and that is what sets him him apart from them, his assessment of prospects is more accurate then most GM’s. For every 10 prospects in an organization only 2 become impactful players. You get close to championship calibre team you trade up and let go the prospects!!! My dude. We don't have the caliber of prospects to come close to matching that.

If anything, Atlanta winning last year with an Acuna-less medicore team is evidence that you just need to get into the playoffs every year and roll the dice.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 They extended the wrong guy (Strasburg) and Corbin became a pumpkin. This. Nats are rebuilding to coincide with the expiry of those deals.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Surprised Hosmer would agree to go from SD to the Nationals.. Probably some back room deal from Boras to incentivise him..

Totally agree. 2019 Nats were kinda like that too. 3 great starters, a couple good hitters and a crap bullpen was enough to win it. Jays went "all in" in 2015 and don't have much to show for it.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Soto's 21% BB rate gonna take a hit
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Hosmer's deal is lighter on the backend, which kind of matters. His AAV appears to drop to $13M for these final three seasons.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Soto's 21% BB rate gonna take a hit Will be interesting to see if his SLG spikes with his OBP potentially going down now... should see a lot more hittable pitches
BlueJaysFever Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 No, the Nats eat salary as part of the deal if they want all those specs... I see. I’m not sure how I feel about that. I guess whatever it took to make the deal work and the Nats really got a massive haul here. There aren’t many teams that could or would have competed with the value given by San Diego

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Their BP was good from the deadline on.. Their BP was a key factor in the playoffs.. *in a small sample size their mediocre bullpen did not give up a lot of runs in the playoffs*
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 f-ing Hosmer holding up all of MLB, geez
BlueJaysFever Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 f-ing Hosmer holding up all of MLB, geez Lol. The Cubs would be an interesting dance partner.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Their BP was good from the deadline on.. Their BP was a key factor in the playoffs.. Dude their bullpen was not good. They worked well enough in the playoffs but it was pretty much Daniel Hudson + scrubs and Corbin pitching out of the bullpen. The same Daniel Hudson that sucked s*** with the Jays that same year.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 So if Hosmer says no, apparently the Dodgers are ready to snatch Soto lol
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 I love drama..... LETS SHUT IT DOWN HOS
PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 My dude. We don't have the caliber of prospects to come close to matching that. Yes on prospects but I was expecting a major league piece would have been sent to the Nats that we would have ached over (Kirk or Espinal) but never happened.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Hosmer the slap hitting 1B going to get 200 mil career earnings after this
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Hosmer gets 10% of Soto's next deal.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Hosmer the slap hitting 1B going to get 200 mil career earnings after this World series hero Eric Hosmer
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Looks like Atkins had no intention of contending this year from day one. Neglecting the BP.. Leaving Charlie in charge for as long as he did.. and now looking like a cuck at the trade deadline.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 5.5 hours for us to make a move... it's almost panic time lol
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Yes on prospects but I was expecting a major league piece would have been sent to the Nats that we would have ached over (Kirk or Espinal) but never happened. We still would not have enough to match what they put out there.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 World series hero Eric Hosmer Gotta love that Royals team eh?
