Blazeit420 Verified Member Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 He'll be released after s***ing the bed. Should only be a few games. Just put Kooch in the pen and get another SP.

He's a bandaid reliever whose time here is likely limited and who is unlikely to have any influence on the clubhouse. This is a none issue.

Ehjays Verified Member Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 So in order to put him on the roster you have to make room on the 40 man and 26 man, losing a pitcher. Who is moved Shatkins is bad with bullpen management
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 Surprised they would do this instead of just bringing up Eisert or Hernandez, or even Spraker has looked better lately. I guess they want a veteran guy, and maybe they don't want to throw any of the rookies straight into the fire vs the AL east teams... Yep. It honestly doesn't make sense. This move will most certainly cost a bunch of runs. It could make the difference in a few wins or losses.

Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 Let’s at least give him a chance and say a few prayers.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 Brace yourself for Tabby commentary. He is gonna bust a nut over this. "Romo is a veteran. He is a guy who has done it...who has been there before...he has been a winner...and he knows how to pitch".

Who is moved Shatkins is bad with bullpen management DFA Capra makes space on the 40 man. Gage, Thornton or Castillo goes down. Nothing to lose sleep over really.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 If the Jays give him a short leash, no problem with this signing at all. He posted a 1.0 WAR in 2019.

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 I’ve always had faith in Atkins….until now:( This has to be stop gap to get us through the next three weeks.
keggy Verified Member Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 I think it says a lot about management when we're this worried about how a scrap heap acquisition will be used.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 You just named 3 guys not scuffling. never said it was ideal, just that it's not really a huge puzzle to solve that will catastrophically alter the Jays season.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 It's just sad that the Jays have to sign a washed up s*** bag like this just to fill innings. You'd think after 7 years there would be more in the tank when a few pitchers go down to injury.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2022 Posted June 28, 2022 I really hate this move. It's like the front office looked at his 86mph fastball and upper 4's xFIP the last 4 years and said "Man, I gotta get me some of that!". At least sign someone who could be tweaked to find something.
keggy Verified Member Posted June 28, 2022 Posted June 28, 2022 I wonder if they have a very specific plan for Romo. Like very specific. Like use him exclusively as an opener against a righty dominated lineup only for Kikuchi starts.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2022 Posted June 28, 2022 I don't think this is anything other than a guy that will come in when the game is lopsided in favour of either team, to eat some outs and save better arms for higher leverage.

Yeah but why even sign him for that? There are minor leaguers on the 40 who could fill that role. They must thing he could be a bit more than that...

Our manager will have him in high leverage spots in no time

I agree 100% with this, Im not sure but as I mentioned in another thread I think Zulu could be lost in Rule 5 this year and if thats the case it makes this signing so much worse than it already is.

They'll just add him to the 40 later this season or after the WS to avoid the Rule 5, zero reason they won't.
