The long man out of the pen pulled after 23 pitches (+ being really effective), replaced by a 1 inning reliever who sucks and is allowed to go up to 36 pitches because Charlie wanted to squeeze another (bad) inning out of him. Letting the long man who was actually effective pitch deeper into the game was probably too complicated.

Thornton went 2.1. That’s more than he’s went all year for us. I’m not sure about buffalo.

He threw 23 pitches.

19 of which were strikes.

Gage can Buy Lourdes a few tonight

He can buy him a Jr. Chicken from McDonalds considering he's probably living below the poverty line as a 29 year old career minor leaguer.

And?

He has consistently only pitched 2 innings at most . I’m sure those innings have a huge variance of leverage and numbers of pitches. He still only throws 2 innings.

Do other teams do that differently?

Just one oompa loompa

It's clearly Shatkins who are part of the plan on how we use our players. Montoyo is just too stupid to deviate from the plan based on how things are actually going on the field.

You're asking if teams look at pitch counts to determine when to pull a pitcher?

I get shifting, I do. But now I'm like "sweet, ground ball base hit up the middle, oh not wait, someone is standing right on second base..."

They don’t seem to primarily with relievers on an outing to outing basis. A reliever could throw 9 pitches and get out of the inning or 23, they almost are never getting in for another. A lot of guys do one inning and they don’t come in for a second for almost any reason. That’s normal.

Surely, I’m not the only one who has noticed this. Relievers are often in for an inning as a goal, and it doesn’t matter how many pitches they throw within a range unless they give up hits. They never come out for a second even if they get three guys out on 8 pitches.

And given all of that, Trevor Richards getting a second inning makes more sense to you than Thornton coming back out?

Looking at their usage for the season, Thornton was coming out regardless of who came in.

Rixhards threw an inning less. He might not have been meant to go the whole inning.

You have relievers, you have to use them all at some point within the bounds of how long they are supposed to go.

Fans of all teams complain about this kind of stuff even though every manager does it. If the smart teams didn’t do similar stuff I’d be more worried.

A real manager wouldn't put up with the laziness of not running 100% after hitting the ball. Vladdy just standing there watching the ball...

There are few bigger Chuckles detractors than I, but f*** right off with this. He could have run with the speed of Zimmer on coke and it would have made ZERO difference.

f*** off and learn about managing the players, they need to give 100% all the time, that's what they are getting paid for.
