Number of games Jansen has been put at DH from 2020-2022: 0

Cuz he's a defensive catcher. Duh! Why would you possibly want to get his bat into the lineup without his glove?

 

It's not even a 2-catcher same game thing. Kirk gets to be the DH all the time.

For some reason, they still don't see Jansen as an offensive contributor, worthy of being the DH.

 

Tapia and Zimmer can be used as the DH, but not Jansen. Not good enough with the stick apparently.

like, this sounds crazy but there might be a decent chance that he's PROBABLY better at hitting than Gurriel and Chapman, and POSSIBLY even better than Teoscar, Kirk, and maybe even Bo..............

 

I would say something like:

 

99% chance he's a better hitter than Chapman

90% chance he's better than Gurriel

50% chance he's better than Kirk

30% chance he's better than Teoscar

5% chance he's better than Bo

Jansen definitely struggled after that finger injury, but he seems to be back on track now.

Hopefully, he can creep his way up from 8th by the end of the year.

There is no question that was the right call. Tapia has had too many PAs as it is for a negative WAR player with an 88 wRC+.

Danny and Bo are the two best hitters in our lineup right now, but they still bat Danny 8th or 9th, and never let him DH, when he isn't catching.

I was hoping Schneider would figure it out, after Montoyo left, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Do these guys not look at statistics at all?

Danny was DH on Friday. I think they’re smartening up to it. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a lineup reshuffle soon/before the playoffs

Yes. I saw that. And they used him as DH again today.

Could it be that the Jays are finally starting to figure it out in time for the playoffs, or will they continue to give way too many AB to Tapia during the playoffs.

This would be the cherry on top of a great off season. My wish list at the start was:

 

1- Kirk or Moreno for a long term Arizona OF.

2- Non tender Tapia to free up salary.

3- Trade Teo and Gurriel to free up salary and get something back.

4- No QO to Stripling. Use the $20 to get someone better.

5- Get 1 or 2 more good BP pieces.

6- Extend Jansen.

 

FO and I have been on the same wavelength. They ignored all the mediocre OF trade targets and went after the right long-term solutions. Love it!

It would be a ballsy more to extend him for 2-3 free agent years. But it would cover his prime and has potential to be fantastic value. If the team thinks he can be healthy. Danny might take it to guarantee life changing money. 5/40M can buy a lot of glasses.
