Just can't leave Jays games early lol

Jays are scarier when the opponents have a lead it feels like.

The Red Sox forums are all just saying f*** Tanner Huock

There's a good chance they win the first 2 games if they use Garrett Whitlock in both. That's probably the case if Houck is available.

Their starters since last Tuesday have gone, Evaldi, Pivetta, Houck, Wacha, Whitlock, Hill, Evaldi, Pivetta, Whacha (tonight), Whitlock (tomorrow).

Whitlock already started a game, and did long relief in another. Seems he's been pitching every 4 days. I'm not sure the issue with Houck really changed things. Whitlock pitched 4 innings Saturday so would not have pitched until Wednesday.

They seem to want to transition Whitlock to a longer role every few days.

Yeah they were planning to transition Whitlock to a starting role anyways since Sale is out for so long. Also Rich Hill has been ass

That play at the plate with Bo was a lot closer than I ever expected it to be. Was Bo extra cautious not to leave early or something?

Missed game. Watched on PVR. Wow. Kudos to those who stuck it out. Looked over. Hopefully now we can stop building Garcia into something he isn't. He is a useful arm for sure but our pen still lacks swing and miss stuff. Unsung was Kirk's walk in the 10th. Acted as a bunt without the risk of him f***ing up a bunt or grounding into a DP. Gausman has been so fun to watch. This team really doesn't give up.

I think the camera angle made it seem closer that it was

I mean Romano, Garcia, Mayza, Merryweather, Richards and Phelps (as a reliver) all have career K/9 over 9. Cimber is the (weak) contact guy. Garcia hasn't exactly shown it yet this year (velo is down a bit from last year so far). We may not have the swing and miss you see in the Yankees pen, but there is a lot of swing and miss in the pen IMO.

That all said - I don't think Garcia is a top notch lockdown guy. I think he's our 3rd or 4th best pen arm (with Cimber) and the gap between him and Phelps/Richards isn't too big.

Toronto pen is 20th in K% but second best in BB%.

Yimi Garcia is fine but he might not be one of their top 5 relievers so he really shouldn't be thought of as a setup man.

I think Romano, Phelps, Mayza, Cimber, and Richards are all better than Garcia. Merryweather might be. Pearson should be if he's in the pen.

Good stuff. Thanks. I agree. Borucki stuff looked good but BB'ed a couple. His command lacks at times. If the pen can keep the BBs down the swing and miss is probably less important. I like pen power arms. Cimber has been ok the last few times out but he and Richards are right there with Garcia. Useful. Merryweather can be more useful in leverage to us as we go. He has to stay out of the middle of the plate so much, but his stuff is electric and the V is ticking back up.

Who didn't love Romano throwing nothing but FBs to JD Martinez getting a foul and 2 whiffs?

The Garcia stuff was out of hand "he knows how to pitch" "hes done it before" "he has 5 pitches" "he is the guy to face the other teams best" "he has been a closer" on and on. The guy is useful and I like his arm but anointing him the designated "set up man" with his vetrin presents is a mistake.

Phelps or Mayza really should be in the setup roles for the time being. It’s a bit unfair to say putting Garcia in there was a bad move because of how good he’s been lately, but he barely had a spring because of visa issues and is probably still ramping up. Velo is noticeably down from career averages. When he gets more comfortable and earns it, you can start consistently throwing him in those situations. But I feel much more at ease with Phelps, Mayza, Merryweather, and maybe even Cimber depending on matchups in setup.

Regardless, I’m happy with how Charlie has managed the bullpen so far. I love the quick hook and moving on to the next guy quickly if things aren’t working. Not too much to complain about.

What a comeback last night, a healthy Springer is such a massive difference maker. If the club refuses to move Vladdy into the two spot I think Espinal would look great there. Bo can move down to the 5 or 6 spot at least until he finds him timing. There have been far too many times where the inning ends with the bat in his hands with Vlad waiting on deck.

Pen was mostly good last night but I wasn't thrilled with how long it took to get Garcia out of there, it was quickly apparent that he didn't have it after only a few hitters.

Another consistent low impacting ump night where the Jays win. The correlation is pretty clear at this point (though still SSS overall) when the umps aren't noticed a lot, the Jays win.

At times I thought this scorecard was going to look a lot worse.
