L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 I don't pay a lot of attention to COVID anymore, other than in passing, but I know we are not out of the danger zone. At any time a vaccine resistant and more lethal variant could pop up. But right now COVID wouldn't influence a decision to go to a game or concert or whatever. And I'm 48 yrs old. Jim covid is currently vaccine resistant. If it wasn’t there wouldn’t be any cases
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Let's not talk about vaccines and s*** okay? We were talking about attendance and Covid and now we are done.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 It really depends who they play and what the other matchups are. I remember in 2020 when they played Tampa we got the 7pm game one day and a good time for game 2. I think Tampa has good TV numbers. I'd say if we play Tampa, likely 5pm or later slot. If we play Seattle, could be 2pm or something. As of now, the matchups would be: Tampa @ Toronto Seattle @ Cleveland Padres @ Braves Phillies @ Cardinals Just looked up the 2020 TV ratings for Jays/Rays, and they were really bad. That could have been for a number of reasons (pandemic, election, no fans, etc), but that seems like a matchup that would get tossed in the 12:30 timeslot on ESPN2 or something. Canadian viewers don't count towards ESPN's ratings, and while Tampa gets good local TV numbers, I don't think their fanbase stretches beyond that. My guess is Toronto/Seattle might get the better timeslots if J-Rod plays. But yeah, it really depends on what the official matchups are. ESPN is going to put the games they think will draw the best in the most desirable time slots, so based on the above matchups, the NL is likely getting top priority in that regard.

Yeah I do admit the NL matchups are better, and if they want to be fair to Seattle and not have their game be like morning time for the west coast then the Jays could get the worst slot. Guess who’s calling in sick next friday heh
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Yeah I do admit the NL matchups are better, and if they want to be fair to Seattle and not have their game be like morning time for the west coast then the Jays could get the worst slot. Guess who’s calling in sick next friday heh I didn't even consider the time zone issue for the Mariners. Starting their series at noon, regardless of their opponent, would be unfair to Seattle fans. Same with the Padres. So yeah, if it's Jays/Rays, then it's pretty much guaranteed to be the earliest game (or Toronto/Cleveland if the Jays somehow collapse down the stretch). If it's Jays/M's, then it's likely later in the afternoon/early evening, unless ESPN/MLB want to be cruel to Seattle. Honestly, as long as the game is not at the Trop, I don't care what time it starts.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 But Vladdy doesn’t have the clutch gene:p He’s in Eric Hinske territory now baby!

As of now, the matchups would be: Tampa @ Toronto Seattle @ Cleveland Padres @ Braves Phillies @ Cardinals For sure the Braves/Padres and Phillies/Cardinals will be given preference over the AL matchups lol. Earliest time the Seattle series would start would be at 3 or 4PM. Or maybe 6PM or 7PM though I bet they give that to one of the two NL matchups. If the Blue Jays play Tampa, games will start at noon or 1PM for sure. If the Jays play the Mariners, either looking at a 3PM-4PM start time or possibly a 6PM or 9PM timeslot if they want to showcase J-Rod on prime time.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 So by exclusion all of these guys: McGriff Bell Alomar Carter Olerud Fernandez Wells All the catchers (Martin/Borders/Arencibia et al) Bautista Encarnacion Delgado Never had more than 1-2 walk off hits in a season??? Surprising, though I guess walk off hits are uncommon and even 1-2 in a season is kind of a big deal.

bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Weird that attendance was only 30,000. In 2015 Jays/Yankees sold out a Monday night around the same time and there was way more buzz. Do you think it's just the division vs wild card? If the Jays were tied with the Yankees would we see a full house? I would have thought the Aaron Judge homerun chase would give added incentive. Oh well. Probably the next 5 are 40,000+?? Hot dog night tonight, weekend games, last game of series seems to get more. On Twitter they are saying the economy is in crisis, everyone is poor and saving up for Playoff tickets. Who knows if Twitter knows anything though. I didn't really want to say anything, but the game I went to on the 16th I was a bit disappointed with the crowd atmosphere. I get it, it was just the Orioles and still earlyish September, but it was Friday night and the crowd was actually really tame, what's up with that? The Jays Mariners game I went to in Seattle was a lot more ruckus and we got swept, untop of it only being July.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 You could either buy one huge mansion or buy 3 beautiful homes in Calgary for $2.3M and all better than that bungalow at Dufferin and Eglinton. Crazy haha.

That could explain why a Friday night game might not have been busy.

Also that was like first week of school for a lot of people. The week before school started/end of August every game was packed

The last time Vlad started yelling "my house" we went on a skid. Last night in thier house the f***ing Yanks celebrated beating us for the D title. Schnieder publicly called out Vlad's lack of hustle after the game. I'm done with the "they're young" excuses some make. Lets hope they bring their A game back tonight!

If it was the Bosox they would be jumping on each other.

I missed the game, which play was he referring to when he said "“Vladdy flat-out needs to run harder … that’s inexcusable.” Adds: “He’s still young, he’ll be fine … but you’ve got to leave no margin for error.”
