Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Used the bottom middle and bottom away of the strike zone and the low and away outside of it Low and away is 16% for 2021 and surprisingly 15% for 2022.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Low and away is 16% for 2021 and surprisingly 15% for 2022. According to what? Thats entirely inaccurate
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 According to what? Thats entirely inaccurate According to the chart, for a right handed batter, Low and Away is 12+4 for 2021 and 11+4 for 2022.

Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Kirk and Teo on the bench today. Biggio at 1B and Vlad DH. You could really see how today's lineup is designed with a focus on combating expected late inning bullpen moves from Tampa. Extra special effort to stagger lefty/righty through the bottom 6. 2 to 3 runs tops today and tomorrow from our offense I reckon. Stripper and Gaus are going to have to be near perfect.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 > Left-hander Shane McClanahan is expected to be reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Tampa Bay’s series finale against Toronto at 3:07 p.m. ET. McClanahan has not pitched for the Rays since Aug. 24, as he was scratched from his Aug. 30 start in Miami moments before first pitch due to a left shoulder impingement. Perfect

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 Closer to the plate than last season- was to focus on more outside pitches but keeps getting jammed inside Closed start with his lead foot compared to last season. Kind of a cross body swing vs an open one Closed step compared to last season. Same issues above Bat angle dipping before the swing vs vertical last season leading to decreased launch angle, especially on lower pitches Load elongated (too early and extended) compared to last season causing him to be late and off balanced In the last week he has opened his stance, stepped off the plate, adjusted the bat angle before the swing and attempting to be more smooth and quick with the toe tap. Nothing wrong with the swing, but little things innthe set up causing some issues, along with patience needed to get a good pitch https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/guerrero-jr-jumpstarts-blue-jays-to-win-over-rays-as-slugger-starts-to-turn-corner/ Great article detailing some of what I have been saying for a bit lol, particularly the improvement on pitches down in the zone in the last week
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 Anyone else amazed at comments from Jays fans when they go to games? Not to slag them really. Every fan base has them and they are the bread and butter of the business. But wow....always amazes me. People decked out in Jays regalia: - Ball ripped 30 feet to Biggio's left at 2B. "Bro, you gotta dive for that. What are you doing?" - Why aren't they bunting and playing small ball? - Manoah can throw 105 MPH. Lots more like that. Seriously no clue. The worst poster on this Board, that isn't an overt troll, knows more about this game than most casual fans.

It’s like going to any hockey game and when the home team is on a power play you can bet there will be a dozen guys yelling SHOOT every time they touch the puck

Even the one pitch away is more middle away than down and away... It's down and away that is the problem "“His natural path works well with four-seamers up in the zone and when it comes to hitting sinkers or down and in, you want to think more of an inside-out type of swing," said Blue Jays hitting coach Guillermo Martinez."" Like this quote is weird... Guillermo the problem is breaking balls down and away not sinkers down and in "“Ideally you don't want to swing at their pitches. (Guerrero) knows if there's a guy that's throwing down and in on him, the job is to see it up and push him out and over,” said Martinez. “I always say that you have to understand the start of the pitch to understand that start of the swing. If it's a four-seamer, you want to get a little bit above it. If it's more of sinker, then you have to stay closed and stay inside it. When he's consistent doing that, he's very dangerous.” Again, what the f*** is he talking about. They are trying to get Guerrero to slash sinkers down and in the other way? Who the f*** cares?

I was like errrrrr idk about that one chief lol!! Dude was stuck in 2018? I dont think his D metrics are near what they used to be but he is still a pretty solid piece on D at least with the eye test, FWIW. Certainly compared to Tapia, Whit, Biggio, Teo and LGJ. He used to have some pop but not anymore.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/guerrero-jr-jumpstarts-blue-jays-to-win-over-rays-as-slugger-starts-to-turn-corner/ Great article detailing some of what I have been saying for a bit lol, particularly the improvement on pitches down in the zone in the last week Honestly I've heard better analysis from Caleb Joseph on the GB % increase and why its happening. I mean if Vlad did just one thing only differently, he would be so much better. That is to do a better job laying off pitches low and away. He is missing or rolling over on them. Rays had a plan with him, especially with 2 strikes. He seems to be worse at laying off when runners on and "clutch". Some say thats just stat noise. Last night with the bases full he rolled over again chasing low and away. If it wasnt hit so softly its a GIDP and no run scores. Next AB runners on same same = GIDP. Book is out this year he will fish. Some guys struggle with this their whole career, but we have seen selective Vlad before. We know he can do it. Its frustrating because our expectations are high. He hits a 2B Tues night and HR last night both nobody on. For any human ball player thats solid. For Vlad we just expect more and want to see him drive in more runs in these big moments. I'm sure he will come around (I keep saying that).
