gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Chapman leading off with Springer taking the day off is probably not the best idea. Just bat Bo lead off for today, especially when he's been a lot better at the plate recently.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 10 games series against Orioles will determine this season. Who has predicted this outcome? I don’t think a single person would have guessed it. Beginning of the year we were all licking our lips at the thought of 10 games in September against the Os. Everyone and their brother had the Os losing at least 90 games. Baseball is weird.
mellowgold Verified Member Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Well, here we go. 16 of the next 21 games are against Baltimore or Tampa. Buckle up.

Ehjays Verified Member Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 RHP Julian Merryweather activated from 60-day IL; RHP Casey Lawrence optioned to Triple-A The Blue Jays’ bullpen had been without Merryweather since mid-June, when the hard-throwing righty went down with a left oblique strain. Merryweather made the bulk of his 10 rehab appearances with Triple-A Buffalo before being reinstated between Toronto’s doubleheader games Monday in Baltimore. The 30-year-old sports a 5.28 ERA in 41 appearances (37 in relief) for Toronto since 2020. Additionally, catcher Zack Collins was designated for assignment in a corresponding 40-man roster move.

With the extra bullpen spot, there is a ton of opportunity for roster abuse if Atkins wants to go in that direction. Across Merryweather, Pop, Thornton, Gage, and Saucedo, you can basically call up a fresh arm or play matchups for every series for the rest of the season.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2022 Author Posted September 6, 2022 Cavan Biggio had just one hit in 2022 going into the game on May 27th. Since then he's hit .249/.358/.445, which is a 132 wRC+. He's legitimately one of our best players right now. I want to see him in the lineup every day against righties, even if it means some corner OF duty. He's really solidified his place as our starting 2B going forward, which most probably didn't see coming this spring.

Wayyyy too many people here were writing him off after 1 bad season when he had a previous track record of being good. People here were doing the same with Bo a few weeks back. Really hoping the FO tries Biggio in CF next year. He’s got great speed and could potentially be a decent CF defender. Would be nice to get Biggio in the lineup rotating 2B/1B and playing CF when Springer needs DH days

The division is still within reach with a little luck going our way. I wouldn’t bet on it, but theres more hope than a month ago for sure. The media outcry in New York will be legendary if they do manage to blow the division after a historically great 1st half. I would love to see it even if the Rays end up winning the division and not us.

It's been great to watch Cavan dig his way out of the whole and back into the lineup. When Espy sits, we our lineup now features 9 batters with a wRC+ over 110...that's insane.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Seattle's rest of season schedule is kind of a cakewalk outside of a few games. 2 more against the White Sox, 3 against Atlanta, 2 against the Padres, then a road trip to play 4 @ the Angels, 3 @ Oakland, 3 @ KC then finish up at home with 4 against Texas, another 2 against Oakland and 4 against the tigers. 4 off days sprinkled in also. Hard to see them stumbling with that many games against complete garbage remaining.

I really don't get why people freak out about our offense when we're basically 1st or 2nd in all statistics in the AL, 3rd to 5th in the MLB, it's baffling. Like across the board, traditional and advanced...wtf???

I don’t think you could guess they are a top 5 offense without checking the numbers
Sorrow Verified Member Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Biggio's wRC+ since that date is 40 points higher than Espinal's wRC+. Espinal is +10 OAA at 2B, Biggio is +2 this year and +1 in RF. There is quite literally zero reason that Biggio shouldn't be starting every game against RHP at this point.

I mean, you're going to lose a lot of games, the reactions are absurd.

Like across the board, traditional and advanced...wtf??? I don't think most are freaking out. I think despite those lofty overall numbers there are some legit reasons for frustration and concern. Vlad has a 140 wRC+ which is awesome, but man the GBs and swinging at pitches out of the zone or pitchers strikes just makes you wonder how much better he could be with a little pitch selection improvement. Its all going to come down to how they match up and handle the best in the playoffs for all players/teams. Hopefully we can hit a game and have a good discussion about it this month.
