I want to see him as a one inning RP, dialing it up to 98

I think they want to keep him stretched out though

But on the other hand what's the point of that? If he starts any more games this year the team is f***ed.

lol

lol. My thoughts exactly. Whats worse thing that can happen? Start him in low leverage and see if he is '21 Brad Hand - worse or better.

Might as well try and get some use out of him and his contract.

I fully expect the Jays will work with him over the winter in hopes of 'fixing him' and having him in the rotation next year.

I'd rather have Zimmer than Tapia myself. I still don't understand JBJ over either of them.

It's really just optics. They couldnt justify giving Zimmer PA's when he's been so beyond terrible with the bat, despite being heads and shoulders better than Tapia in every other facet of the game. As for JBJ, he is what they wanted Zimmer to be, so rather than just hope Zimmer would turn it around, they just grabbed the consistency and punted the question mark.

The biggest issue I have is that Zimmer had 86 PA. If he had the 300+ Tapia has received he'd likely level out to around his more normal career ~2ish WAR /650 PA. Even if he has a 70ish wRC+ it's an improvement on two of the "everyday" OF we presently have.

If Zimmer and Tapia both fell into that thing from the movie The Fly it would probably make a serviceable 4th OF.

Zimmer is exactly the kind of player Tampa would sign and he'd magically turn into a 5 WAR/650 guy for half a season, then some other team would trade them some prospects nobody had heard of at the dealine, he'd promptly turn back into a pumpkin and the prospects would be the next Franco and McClanahan.

They already had Zimmer in the form of Brett Phillips. They made him pitch and while he was entertaining, they didn't make much out of him.

So is Kooch going to be the long man? We could use him in lower leverage spots where he can work on things I suppose. But if he can barely get through 3 or 4 innings as a starter I'm not sure he'll do any better as a long man.

What if they just let him dial it up for an inning at a time? Could he succeed as a high-K high-BB reliever?

I said this a couple of weeks ago. Doesn't hurt to try.

Exactly

Too much money invested in to him to let him sit

Too risky to keep giving him starts every 5 days

Bo vs LHP in '21 wRC+ = 156

Bo vs LHP in '22 wRC+ = 68

Jays have faced the lowest PAs vs LHP for a team since like the 20's because nobody wants to throw many against such a RHH line up. We saw some of this in '15 as well. I think their poor numbers vs LHP this yr reflect the lack of PAs. We'll see what happens vs the best RHP the rest of '22 and in the playoffs. Whatever happens I hope we can address lineup construction with some LH impact/balance in '23. FO whiffed on Brantley and Ramirez. Got to add some real LH bat(s).

Could make a top offense that much better and make it a lot tougher for a RHP to get into a rhythm away on us. Mind you, with this same line up if Vlad, Bo, Berrios are having '21 seasons we are probably sitting well atop the 1st wildcard now.

id rather not have Zimmer or JBJ. Kind of silly having these guys when you have Tapia/Merrifield along with Nathan Lukes in Buf.

You know when a pitcher is offering to go to AAA to pitch they have lost all confidence. Bullpen is probably the correct decision him going to the minors does very little outside of keep him stretched out.

It's nice that Kikuchi came back and mowed the Yankees down after the 1st two batters got on base.

He could be a weapon out of the pen if he gets comfy out there.

He reminds me a lot of Andrew Miller out of the pen, except he is shorter, Japanese and not as good.
