G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 Jays are 12-1 this year in games started by a right handed pitcher. 0-5 when a lefty starts Um Yeah Gausman, Monoah, Berrios >>> Kikuchi, Ryu at rhe moment
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 So now that Espinal looks like a legit above average hitter when do he move up in the lineup. I think he would be a good leadoff hitter. Drop Bo to 4th and go Espy, Springer, Vlad top 3.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 Just checking out Kirk's baseballsavant page. Elite BB%, K%, Whiff% - but he isn't barreling balls up or hitting them hard (yet). Another thing of interest is they have his framing at the 92nd percentile (it was the 31st percentile last year). That's good, but I have no idea what sample size we need for that to stabilize.

His BB last night in 10th was sooooooooo huge. Hell of an AB. I think he looks better and wont be long before he heats up. Behind the plate he has been a pleasant surprise. Remember what it was like watching JP Arencebia back there? Now that was a bad defensive catcher. Kirk is fine.

I'm certainly no expert on the techniques of a catcher, but even Collins hasn't looked as bad as he was advertised. Am I wrong (I could be wrong)?

How I would do it: Now Full Strength 1 | Springer 1 | Springer 2 | Vladdy 2 | Vladdy 3 | Bichette 3 | Teoscar 4 | Collins 4 | Bichette 5 | Gurriel 5 | Collins 6 | Chapman 6 | Gurriel 7 | Kirk 7 | Chapman 8 | Espinal 8 | Kirk 9 | Tapia 9 | Espinal No chance you move Springer out of the leadoff spot that he loves and there's nowhere else to really put Espinal. Even if Espinal is somehow a 120 wRC+ hitter now, despite adding 100 points to his isolated power, he's also striking out nearly twice as much as he did last year and has lost 50 points on his BA and 40 points on his OBP. So far he's selling discipline for a higher power approach. Anabolic Espi is in a weird place where you still need time to figure out exactly what he is now. Collins himself also has a huge small-sample flag of course but, as I mentioned when he was acquired, a potential offensive breakout for him is predicated on really promising raw tools that we already knew about, which is significantly better exit velocities than Espinal and a long track record of dominating the minor leagues. Ride the hot hand until you find out whether the breakout is real or falls back down to earth.

Am I wrong (I could be wrong)? no expert. he looks ok. his throw to 2B was about as bad as it gets. We have seen really bad catchers and so far Im not seeing any of our guys look like that lol

I think he would be a good leadoff hitter. Drop Bo to 4th and go Espy, Springer, Vlad top 3. I'm not ready to put Espinal at the top of the lineup, but he should be batting ahead of Tapia. When the everyone is healthy it SHOULD be (what it will be will reverse slot 2 and 3): Springer CF Vladdy 1B Bo SS Teo RF Gurriel LF Chapman 3B Kirk DH Espinal 2B Jansen C 6 through 9 are mostly fungible on this team maybe even 5-9 depending on how they're playing on any given day. Obviously you'll sub in Biggio/Tapia when they're playing. Hopefully Zimmer is nothing but a late inning defensive replacement/pinch runner. And before you ask, no, I don't care that it's all right handed. A good hitter is a good hitter, and our best hitters are all right handed.

Ride the hot hand until you find out whether the breakout is real or falls back down to earth. I like moving Vladdy up to the #2 spot. When you have one of the best hitters on the planet, than it makes sense that he should be in a position to get as many plate appearances as possible. And I really like Hernandez hitting right behind him - he is best suited to protect Vladdy and would make a VERY good #3 in the lineup. Moving Bo down to #4 makes perfect sense to me. He has a dangerous swing that can knock in a lot of runs, but all those ahead of him in the lineup will get on base far more than he does...so, yes, take advantage of that dangerous swing with guys on base because he is not suited for the very top of the lineup in either the #1 or #2 spots. Finally I really like Espy moved to number 9. He will valuable there in turning the roster over. I do think that Espy's numbers (batting average and on base average) will improve accompanied with better power. I think he is experimenting with his new power and possibly too anxious right now to show it off. In the last couple of games he seems to be finding the right balance of taking advantage of that extra power while also doing what he did last year to earn a .311 average. Becoming a bit more patient at the plate and willing to go the other way...instead of trying to pull everything. P.S. When Gurriel gets hot, and he will, then it would be prudent to move him up...at least one spot....

Sultans of Six is possibly the worst possible idea anyone could possibly have suggested, and Hazel Mae should be severely disciplined by her employer for putting that out in public.

InsideThePark Verified Member Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 Um Yeah Gausman, Monoah, Berrios >>> Kikuchi, Ryu at rhe moment Sure but the offense and pen impacts games as well. You'd think we'd have outscored out issues in a couple of the lefty games, or went completely cold offensively or had the pen blow more than 1 of the 13 righty games. Kikuchi also hasn't given up more than 2 earned runs in any start. Berrios has 1 horrific start and 1 marginal start. Stripling is also among the righties and he's had 2 marginal ones. The 1 righty start we lost wasn't even any of those 4 games it was a good start from Gausman. Ryu's 2 starts were expected to lose the majority of the time. Even if you had 13 righties go 6 shutout innings and 5 lefties go 3 innings and give up 5 runs I would expect more than 1 of those games to have an unexpected result.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 It is, but kinda leaves outa few of the guys. Definitely covers the latin american contingent though. Nah, I don't think it leaves out anybody. Their whole thing with the "Barrio" since it started has been to include everyone on the team. Did you miss all the clips about Matt Chapman being brought into the Barrio? lol. Lourdes even called him "Matteo Chapman" the other day, got a good laugh out of me. The home run jacket they all wear has said "La Gente Del Barrio" on it since they started using it and it has the flags of all the players on it. The two leading non-Latin vets on the team are Chapman and Springer and both have been on board with the Barrio thing from the get go. They'd probably love this type of nickname.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 The PA cut off is 10. Heineman and Katoh both have 0.0 WAR in their minimal appearances, Jansen has .4 WAR in his 8 PAs.
