This type of depth signing and the reports that Jose Ramirez might be signing an extension in Cleveland pretty much tell me that the Jays are likely done for the off-season. If Michael Conforto wasn't an anti-vaxxer, they probably would have signed him by now and if they were going to trade for Ramirez, it probably would have been done by now.

 

If they are truly done and this is the team going into the season, I'm pretty damn happy with it.

Replacement level projection but that STILL might be a slight improvement on the OF depth chart because guys like Mallex Smith and Palacios could be sub-replacement level for all we know.

I'd like Conforto in theory, but not sure it makes sense. He would want a starting job, which means Kirk would end up on the bench more often than not since we would be rotating one of our 4 OFers through the DH slot every game. He might also still be wanting more than the QO offer on a 1 year deal. I'm not convinced he's worth paying $20M + Draft Pick for. He had a down year last year and his 2020 year was propped up with a .412 babip. And it seems no one wants to commit to him long term after his 2021. He really should have taken the QO.

Fowler is a negative defender so surely this signing is not CF depth. In season there are always speedy s***** hit CF available from somewhere.

I think this is it... Until June/July. Then they'll add whatever may be missing and/or add more depth for a meaningful run.

I always liked Dexter Fowler. High on base guy his whole career. If he can prove to be healthy might be a pretty good pickup.

For what it's worth....this signing could just be something in Atkins back pocket if Kirk gets traded to fill a weakness or injury. I doubt Fowler will see any outfield but is just signed as a switching hitting DH.
