John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 Calgary is probably the best place to live in Canada IMO. Affordable cost of living and real estate; big city vibes though not as congested and expensive as Toronto/Vancouver; an hour from the mountains. Only downside is the winters can be long, though there are some days where Calgary gets Chinooks so in January it could be +15 degrees. Also, they could use a baseball team haha. Yeah, it's a nice city. Too big for my small town tastes, but it's got a lot of great things going for it. And the winters are only long to people who've never lived in places with actual winter. To everyone else they're short and easy to deal with

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Braves Promote Freddy Tarnok, Ryan Goins August 16th, 2022 at 10:42am CST • By Anthony Franco The Braves announced a host of roster moves this morning. Pitching prospect Freddy Tarnok has been recalled to make his major league debut, while the club selected the contract of infielder Ryan Goins. Catcher Chadwick Tromp has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left quad strain, while reliever Danny Young was designated for assignment
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 turns out he could stick after all
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Ryan Goins is back in the league It took me two years to convince my wife that Josh Donaldson MIGHT be better than Ryan f'n Goins. Now he's back with the defending WS Champs. Better not tell her...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 I still can't convince her that George Springer is better that Kevin Pillar. It's crazy what huge fan favorite some players become with casual fans...

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Dodgers have so much depth, it's ridiculous. If the Blue Jays lost Manoah, season would be over. Unfortunately this isn't true. Rusty's suggesting the Dodgers won't miss Buehler is just flat out wrong. Losing Kershaw and now Buehler after trading away Mitch White leaves them with: Urias (stud) Gonsolin (who's wearing down with a 4.26 xFIP in the 2nd half and may reach an innings cap soon) Tyler Anderson (the dumpster diving champ of 2022, but a 4.51 xFIP in the 2nd half) Ryan Pepiot (sucks) Dustin May (who's a stud, but returning from TJS) That's essentially it unless they want to turn David Price back into a starter (which I'm baffled they haven't done yet, but they probably know something we don't). If Kershaw can't return and pitch to form due to the back injury, than the Dodgers are desperately short on starting pitching for the rest of this season and the playoffs. A lot of the Dodgers playoff hopes lies in Dustin May being a stud right out of the gates and Kershaw coming back at 100%.

Can you imagine if Gausman and Manoah got hurt around the same time?

Yea maybe they will feel Buehler a bit but Urias, Kershaw, May, Gonsolin with Anderson and Heaney backing them up is still pretty good. And then you got Bobby Miller and Gavin Stone who could both make spot starts if needed.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Aaron Hicks must have some dirt on Brian Cashman or something. His entire career has been terrible.

Dustin May built up to 70 pitches 5 innings and 10 SO in his last rehab and reports are Dodgers may be inclined to let him pitch in the 80-90 pitch range.

A lot of the Dodgers playoff hopes lies in Dustin May being a stud right out of the gates and Kershaw coming back at 100%. Even with Kershaw and Buehler gone, being without May for the entire season and after trading Mitch White, it's very impressive how the Dodgers can still field a solid rotation one through five! They're a team built well for a 162 game season. This shows you how roster depth is important. Something the Blue Jays front office should focus on addressing in the offseason. Dodgers current rotation: Urias Gonsolin Anderson Heaney Pepiot Those five are better than the Blue Jays right now IMO. May is expected back very soon, and Danny Duffy likely will be back in September. I'm also shocked why they don't have Price stretched out a starter but like you said they might know something we don't. For the Postseason, if they get Kershaw back, and along with May in top form, their rotation is fine. They can run a rotation of Urias, Gonsolin, Kershaw and May along with Heaney, Anderson, Duffy and Pepiot in the wings in case someone gets injured again. Now lets talk about their lineup and bullpen depth
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Anderson has been unreal for them this year. What a find. Can you imagine if Gausman and Manoah got hurt around the same time? If Anderson was doing that with the Blue Jays, he would be considered an arm that's "for real" from some homers on this board. Like you said, if the Jays lost Gausman and Manoah at the same time or even one of them for an extended period of time, their season would become a dumpster fire.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 I wonder if Price even wants to be a Starter anymore. He gets to do what he always wanted pitch every day.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 I wonder if Price even wants to be a Starter anymore. He gets to do what he always wanted pitch every day. He's probably packed it in and just finishing out the remaining of his contract. I bet he retires after this season. He's won a World Series in 2018, he knows he's no longer an elite workhorse like he was, and he's probably enjoying the California lifestyle and beaches. He's not even used in high-leverage situations out of the bullpen. Not a bad gig for making $32 million (16M owed by Boston) haha.

While the Dodgers aren’t completely ruling Duffy out for as an option down the stretch, Roberts conceded that it is “pretty unlikely” that Duffy will pitch in a game this year.
