Ohtani putting the Angels on his back tonight

Threw 7 strong innings and hit a 2 run home run to beat the stupid Red Sox and snap the Angels losing skid. Love eveything about it.

He's getting raked across the coals on MLB Central... :)

Also, Max Muncy was pissed!

I think he forgot what the count was or didn’t realize it was 2 strikes on Turner already. Dude is asleep at the wheel

Don't understand why some solid teams hire these old timers like Tony La Russa or Dusty Baker. They're negative assets to a team.

Adley Rustchman with a 24 wRC+ through 15 games. Talk about a slow start.

Now we just need our highly-touted catching prospect to get off to a hot start, and O's fans will be in even more misery.

Dusty was purely a play for optics coming off the sign-stealing scandal. To his credit, he's done pretty well there so far and has been making analytically inclined decisions.

La Russa was Jerry Reinsdorf hiring his golf buddy right as the White Sox got good so he could undo a mistake he mad years ago firing him. Zero logic to that decision. He's been a disaster over there.

Shane McClanahan might be the best SP in baseball. Best K-BB rate and it's not even close.

31.2% vs 26.5% for Corbin Burnes

He's been a stud so far. Imagine the Rays rotation with Tyler Glasnow healthy.

I don't think it's hyperbole to say we haven't seen stuff like this from a left-handed starter since Randy Johnson.

I want to see a full season of McClanahan/Glasnow/Baz/Patino next year. Stuff for days.

It's like he was made in a lab. I do not understand how he never made a top 50 list. Highest rank was 71 on BP?

I guess the lost 2020 season took his chance of vaulting up prospect lists.

holy f*** McC + Glasnow + Baz all healthy at once is a scary thought.

add in Rasmussen and Patino and it's the best rotation in baseball.... BEFORE you even add whichever crafty lefties and veterans they sign

Yeah they're even missing Baz and Patino as well this season. Would love to see what they could do over a full season. Add in Rasmussen and even Jeffrey Springs looks like he's for real. I love the Rays organization!

Taj Bradley looks like the real deal. The pipeline keeps delivering.

f*** The Rays...

No kidding.

Why are we deep throating the f***ing Rays on a Blue Jay message board?

because they deserve it

gluck gluck

Yeah, it's the Around baseball thread, but y'know f*** the Rays, we know they're good.

They don’t really develop hitters though. Even their outlier Wander looks like a slap hitting super utility guy

Intentional walk on 1-2 would be considered a dumb move back in 1995. It's not some sort of old school veteran move. And honestly, Montoyo is a young manager that makes decisions on a daily basis that are pretty stupid.

But seriously most of Rays offensive picks/the high ones- are regularly duds

Most of that is how they handle players. So platoon happy.

And park factors of course.

I don’t think most of their O guys in the last 15 years drafted high even sniffed a bit of majors success for the most part

I remember looking into it

Yeah they had some flop picks

After Longoria in 2006... these are their first round bats

Although if you do the Jays on the same timeframe and only look at first round bats it's also pretty s*****

No question what the Rays do best is develop pitching, and then trading those pitchers at the right time for excellent hauls of near MLB ready players who find success at a higher than normal rate.

Cubs Designate Clint Frazier For Assignment

By Darragh McDonald | June 10, 2022 at 3:55pm CDT

The Cubs announced a series of roster moves to reporters, including Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic. Lefty Wade Miley, catcher Yan Gomes and infielder Jonathan Villar have all been reinstated from the injured list, while righty Chris Martin has been reinstated from the restricted list, which he joined after being on the bereavement list beyond the seven-day minimum. To make room for those four players, righty Marcus Stroman was placed on the 15-day IL with shoulder inflammation, first baseman/outfielder Alfonso Rivas and righty Michael Rucker have been optioned, while outfielder Clint Frazier has been designated for assignment. The DFA of Frazier opens a spot on both the active and 40-man rosters for Martin.

They've had success back in the day with some hitting prospects (Crawford, Baldelli, Longoria, Huff, Zobrist, Upton). Not all of those guys were high picks though. Guys like Young, Beckham and Dukes became duds. If Baldelli could have stayed healthy, he would have had a great career!

I think he's suggesting that Tony La Russa is old and losing it....not that he's old and implementing old school tactics. Honestly, after listening to him try to explain and defend that move, I'm not sure he's firing on all (or any?) cylinders anymore.

Yeah but it’s been pretty dry for 15 years as Laila posted. Heavy misses with the early bat picks

So with bad drafting the Rays have essentially stayed competitive by trading MLB players, before they get expensive, for other team's prospects

Wouldn't surprise me if they traded Shane McClanahan in the next two years before he gets really expensive.
