Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Jays should get ahead of the curve with Conforto after the AS break... Latest News May 16, 7:44 PM EDT EDT Conforto will look to sign a contract after the 2022 MLB Draft and could potentially return as a hitter in September if he can get ahead in his shoulder rehab, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Analysis Conforto underwent surgery on his right shoulder in mid-April, and it was initially believed that he would miss the entire 2022 campaign while on the mend. However, agent Scott Boras revealed Monday that Conforto will be open to signing with a team in July after the draft with the possibility of a September return, but only as a hitter. "There is a possibility the swinging modality can be back to normal at a much earlier date than the throwing aspect," said Boras. "He had his surgery in April. There's a chance depending on how he progresses that hitting in the majors late in the season is a possibility." As Sherman notes, any prospective team would undoubtedly check into the status of Conforto's shoulder before agreeing on a deal.

Laika Community Moderator Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Sad to see Noah Syndergaard and Aaron Sanchez like this. Aaron Sanchez has nothing left and no hope - Washington is throwing him out there out of desperation. Syndergaard has horrible stuff now, it's crazy how much his injuries took from him. He might be able to build back up but I dunno... the grades that models are giving his pitches are not good. Velo down but also stuff like the movement, shape, etc. not helping him.

I had heard Sanchez' first start was pretty good but that he got hit by a comebacker to the mound and got hurt. His line looked brutal on his second outing though. Maybe there is still something left in the tank. So much promise way back when.

His pitch repertoire is more like Hyun-Jin Ryu now than old Aaron Sanchez

In the course of a few weeks, Conforto got rejected by the market, mysteriously injured himself with no specific details, underwent "shoulder surgery" with no details on the procedure, was out for the year, and is now magically available after the draft compensation expires?

Well, they're waiting for the pick attached to him to get removed after the draft. He did have surgery and isn't expected back until September if at all. I mean, it's right there in black and white?

I still have some faith in Syndergaard getting back to form. Sanchez is cooked. Like when you come home drunk from the bar and throw a frozen pizza in the oven and pass out for 8 hours cooked.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Oof... I forgot to start Archer against the A's, thought I had him in. I'm a dumbass. He only pitched 4.1 innings. Hasn't pitched 5+ innings at all this season.

Syndergaard, outside of his start yesterday, has been pretty serviceable with the Angels. Low K rate is what worries me, though he's keeping his BB/9 at a good level. I think he can still return to some part of his previous form. Should have signed with the Giants or Pirates haha. Sanchez is toast. Even the Giants couldn't fix him last season. Maybe a team rolls the dice on him as a reliever on a minor league deal, but he's finished as a MLB starter.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 He only pitched 4.1 innings. Hasn't pitched 5+ innings at all this season. Yes, I know... he didn't have a ST.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Yes, I know... he didn't have a ST. Nah, the Twins are using him as a limited SP. He's only allowed to go through the lineup twice. He's like halfway between an opener and a starter.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Syndergaard is still serviceable, he's just not Synderlander anymore, injuries took that dream away.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Yes, I know... he didn't have a ST. Its already the middle of May. He should be good for 5 to 6 innings by now. I wish I kept Quintana instead of Archer in the FC. Regretting it now.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Syndergaard is still serviceable, he's just not Synderlander anymore, injuries took that dream away. I think he might start getting hammered. The stuff sucks; he's been lucky.

Yup, Paul Sporer of Fangraphs just said he did 9 seconds of research and that was enough to verify her claims. I'm not kidding.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 What do you think the % of MLB players or any type of professional player have affairs especially when on the road? I think its pretty high. Not saying its right but I would imagine it happens more than people think. Even for her, marrying an athlete who is on the road for 81 games, she would have known it was a possibility. I went to see the Jays play at Fenway in 2009 and stayed at their hotel. I saw Jays players walking out of the lobby at 1-2 am with hot broads getting into taxis or coming back from bars haha. And some of those Jays players I know were married.
