connorp Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 So is this a reminder that Trout is a f***ing god If I had to take one guy coming to the plate, it’s Vlad. Trout is doing his Clint Eastwood thing
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 No wonder Conforto didn't sign, dude's out for the year after having shoulder surgery...

RobinThicc Verified Member Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 By Boras, why? Boras is his agent
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 Boras is his agent I know that, but how did he f*** Conforto? lol
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 I know that, but how did he f*** Conforto? lol Cause his job was to help Conforto get the most amount of money as possible and he didnt. Will Conforto even get the same amount as the QO he declined, next winter?
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 And the rumour is conforto turned a 100+ million dollar extension from the mets. Dude got f***ed by listening to boras

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 RG30 (Randal Grichuk) slash line line .417/463/583 He had a nice game today but his numbers are largely undeserved up to this point. Grichuk was rocking a -3.8 launch angle and a 69% ground ball rate heading into action today along with a bottom of the barrel 85 MPH exit velocity.

Him hitting a HR is hardly a fluke. 180 wRC+ bro
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 Meh, just a sss. Him hitting a HR is hardly a fluke. 180 wRC+ bro wrC+ in April doesn't mean a whole lot, the underlying statscast metrics are far more telling

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 Meh, just a sss. Him hitting a HR is hardly a fluke. 180 wRC+ bro I never said the home run was a fluke but the results for the rest of the season almost certainly are. As Jimcanuck mentioned early season WRC+ alone isn't terribly meaningful on it's own without peaking under the hood to see if that result is in any way sustainable. Grichuk can be happy with the results so far but he can't be happy with the quality of contact he's been producing. Do you think a .452 BABIP is something that's going to continue? He has a career BABIP of .292 for comparison. He's managed to build himself a bit of a cushion based on extreme good fortune with batted balls but he's due for a serious correction in the future.

Masterbather Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 My god The first one didn't miss by much, especially slinging in from a lefty, that's a tough margin call. I think sometimes people expect too much. The second one...yeah that was crap.

But, if it was preceded by and followed by close to 20 other garbage calls….yeah
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 My god Thank God, he didn't mail in our game.

If people can't do it (and we all know they cannot) then technology must be employed. I don't think that's "expecting too much".
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 I can't wait to see the umpire scorecard from last night's Brewers/Phillies game. Curious to see what % of calls that Angel got right. By eye, it looked like maybe 32%

If people can't do it (and we all know they cannot) then technology must be employed. I don't think that's "expecting too much". You're conflating my point. I never said it's expecting too much to expect an accurate strike zone, I suggested that it's difficult to make completely accurate calls on the margins and sometimes people expect too much from humans to call those 100% accurate. These are the best trained people in the world at this job and they still screw up. Some are worse than others, but none are perfect. At some point it's beyond human ability. I am for a computerized K-zone by the way.

I will never give an ump any credit for being "pretty good" or "having a hard job", because the strike zone shouldn't even be their job, and shouldn't have been for a long time now.
